The HfP chat thread – Thursday 26th November

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/11/26/the-hfp-chat-thread-thursday-26th-november/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I have flights booked to the Seychelles next year with Avios and 2-1 towards the end of may. Wanted to add a hotel to the booking with BA any chance they will be willing and offer a discount based on a package booking? Thanks

    • Rob says:

No, because when you book a cheap package the saving is from the flight element. BA doesn’t get big hotel discounts so there is virtually no saving to give you.

  • Tom says:

Can anyone help me with this. I have booked flights to Barbados (x4) for next year using Future Travel Vouchers in August. The same flights are now significantly cheaper in the BA sale. Can I cancel this booking and rebook during the sale?

    • TGLoyalty says:

You can take another FTV and rebook.

    • James says:

In short yes. You should be covered by the Book with Confidence and can obtain a voucher. Check the T&C to be sure or call to check.

      • Tom says:

So I phoned this evening and was told that I had to cancel online and the voucher could take 7 days to be issued, is this the case? Obviously no good if I want to book during the Black Friday deals.

  • Cat says:

Looks like my Langley booking is going ahead (YAY!), but I can’t bring my teaching friend (who I work in close proximity to 5 days a week)! Will any other HfP people be there 12th – 13th?

    • Anna says:

No, though we may be there at Feb half term now that our Vienna trip is cancelled! Are you sure it’s not a study trip, though, or some kind of team-building event?

      • Cat says:

        Ha!
No, the rules are driving me mad (especially when I consider what I have to do at work vs what I’m allowed to do when I leave work), but I’m sticking to them. I have too many doctor and nurse friends (and teachers for that matter) who are put at increased risk on a daily basis by people who broke the rules (or just bent them a little), and are now in hospital.

      • Cat says:

        Sorry about Vienna though!

        • Anna says:

I’ve used reservations@thelangley.com in the past.

Oh yes – my son was telling me earlier that one of his teachers was telling the class that his own daughter is almost continually isolating because her college has been badly affected but he still has to go into school and teach classes full of kids!

        • Anna says:

And thanks – though quarantine would have really thrown a spanner in the works! If we get out of Tier 3 by then I might have a look at last minute availabilty which will be the first time we’ve done anything that spontaneous in 15 years!

          • Cat says:

Our school has done an absolutely incredible job with year group bubbles – so far we’ve had a few isolated cases and some people who’ve had to isolate as a result, but no major community spread. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

    • Harry T says:

Isn’t the Langley in a tier 3 area? I don’t think it will be opening any time soon, if so. I really think they screwed up by not opening in the summer and marketing to the staycation crowd.

      • Cat says:

        It’s Tier 2 apparently

        • Polly says:

Hope you have a nice rest, and that the pool is open! Arrive early Sat and leave late Sunday. And bring a good book. Did you get the new Lee Child book yet? Wonder if they have those nice outdoor heaters so people can eat outside? Business dinner?

          • Cat says:

The pool inside will still be closed I think, but the outdoor pool is heated, so there will be lots of speed walking (no running, of course) to the pool and jumping in quickly (no bombing, obviously).
Thanks for reminding me about Lee Child – I should start from the first one though presumably…

      • TGLoyalty says:

        Yes Tier 2

      • Polly says:

Yes, that was a strange decision. Think they might have got a lot of interest, but may have had to do deals to get the people visiting…and they don’t do deals? Or do they?

        • Cat says:

It’s because The Langley is in Buckinghamshire, I think.

          • Polly says:

The Sentinal, the Lee `child. Can be read in any order really, as we have done over the years…they refer often to background, the odd para…outdoor pool, you are a adventurer! As we well know…have you watched the Amudsen film this week. Simply amazing scenography…

  • SL says:

Friend told me today he got 80k sign up bonus on his Amex business plat. Anyone know if this is a targeted offer/promo or a glitch?

  • Nick says:

So I have tried to link my IHG to normal bendy, how long will it be before my card verification number will show on IHG transactions? The transaction shows as pending but even customer services couldnt see the 6 digit number?

  • aDifferentSimon says:

Er, my curve annual limit has gone up suddenly. Didn’t ask. Insane increase. A wider gremlin? Anyone else?
