When can I travel?

Whenever you want, as long as reward seats are available. Bookings are available as far out as Virgin Atlantic allows booking, which is currently 20th October 2021.

Can I cancel these tickets as usual?

Yes, subject to the usual cancellation fee. You should note that if you need to change the date of your flight, it will reprice at the full Points cost and you would need to pay extra.

Can this be combined with Virgin credit card vouchers?

Yes. You can use your Virgin Atlantic Mastercard vouchers, explained in our credit card review here, to upgrade redemptions booked under this offer or as a 2-for-1, effectively netting you two tickets for 25% of the usual rate!

  • Johnny Tabasco says:

If I hear ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ one more time…

  • Mco says:

It should be ok to book the award flights now and call up later to apply the 2-4-1 right?

    • Travel Strong says:

I’ve only done that if i’m booking the *lower* class and calling to use a voucher to then upgrade on the phone. I was warned off by an agent once from doing it the other way as they seemed very concerned if I had booked the class I wanted and then called up to apply for a partial credit based on having a voucher.

      • Mco says:

Anyone else tried doing this as HFP article suggests it possible later. I have tried waiting for a hour last night and a hour today.

  • Mark says:

Frustrating that I booked a redemption a few weeks ago (like a few others), but the chances are the dates would have been snapped up in the meantime. It did only cost us 45K Virgin points plus around £500 taxes and fees each Upper Class return to Antigua using a couple of credit card vouchers earned last year which, prior to the rule changes, I never thought I’d actual use so we can hardly complain…. at 1p/point that’s still cheaper than today’s cash fares.

One thing I did notice that may be an error in the Virgin Atlantic credit card page (last updated on 2nd November). It says it charges a 3% exchange loading fee but I don’t believe that is the case any longer for euro transactions (only).

  • Rahaney says:

Is 50% the best discount/extra VA points are likely to be offered at in the near future?

  • Alan says:

Just to let you know squid go is offering 2.4% cash back on Virgin sale tickets.

  • The_Bloon says:

Having an absolute headache working out what to do.
    – have around 60k points
    – have 2 upgrade vouchers
    – looking at SFO for May-June

    Can’t work out whether to:
    1. Buy 2 tickets at 950 each which seems great value.
    2. Do premium redemption x2 and use vouchers x 2
    3. Pay premium (aroundd 550 each) and then use vouchers to upgrade.

I’m not sure what the extra taxes tend to come in at for upgrading using the vouchers? If its a lot would definitely just do £ flights. Also – the policy seems a bit opaque on rebooking if USA remains closed to outsiders then?

    • Reney says:

Isn’t the extra tax just makes it up to whatever the tax is UC. So select the UC equivalent I see what the tax is.

I’m deciding between option 2 and 3. I think I am at option 3 since when this promo is over it will take a.long time to earn enough VS points for the next UC redemption by then I would have earned the next voucher.

    • Mo says:

Entirely depends how much you value flexibility and your cash vs points situation.

I personally value flexibility highly and would much rather pay points than spend actual cash so it’s an easy decision for me. Personally I’m not sure I would buy cash tickets with all the things that could go wrong (not getting a test in time, america’s covid situation maybe not getting better by then etc)

  • The Original Nick says:

I’t’s a shame Virgin don’t fly to the desert anymore as I’d of taken the oportunity of the 50% off reward seats.

  • Tom says:

Called this morning got straight through. Spoke to a lovely chap who booked me UC redemption to Miami using premium miles via 241 voucher. Part of me thinks I’m being stupid not just paying cash (£350 more) but a) I prefer the redemption flexibility and b) My card is about to roll to year 2 which means I’ll have another 241 voucher within the next few months. So given the fact we had some of our membership fee refunded this year I’ve still saved a few hundred and can still claim I’ve never once paid cold hard earned cash to fly anything above premium with any of my 1st/BC trips enabled by this website.
