When can I travel?

Whenever you want, as long as reward seats are available. Bookings are available as far out as Virgin Atlantic allows booking, which is currently 20th October 2021.

Can I cancel these tickets as usual?

Yes, subject to the usual cancellation fee. You should note that if you need to change the date of your flight, it will reprice at the full Points cost and you would need to pay extra.

Can this be combined with Virgin credit card vouchers?

Yes. You can use your Virgin Atlantic Mastercard vouchers, explained in our credit card review here, to upgrade redemptions booked under this offer or as a 2-for-1, effectively netting you two tickets for 25% of the usual rate!

  • Tom Barker says:

Would it be possible to use the 241 voucher for a date next year but leave the name of the second person tbc?

    • Carol says:

You can have a free name change. Just check if this only applies up to a certain date though

  • Noggins says:

I thought New England in the fall next year would be nice. £14k for 2 in UC to BOS! Only early months next year show sub £1k fares. Understandable but disappointing. (but it would make a redemption with an upgrade voucher great value!)

  • Dan says:

Struggling to find definitive COVID19 flexibility criteria for redemption bookings….i.e. what if I book S. Africa for April 21 but it’s still on the no-go FCO list? I know things can change before then, but trying to think of “worst case”.

Specifically one of the legs is routing me on KLM via AMS – if it’s booked as a VS redemption would they offer the same flexibility?

P.S. I know that cash prices are amazing right now but I’m miles rich/cash poor so just looking for the smallest hit on my bank account!

    • Harry T says:

I wouldn’t book with VS for April 2021 if you are not prepared to lose some cash or have it held up for a while.

The fact is, VS would have my money if this sale offered fares past August 2021 for cash!

      • Harry T says:

Not saying this is the right choice for you, but I’m only booking long haul with BA and using BA holidays. I only need to put down £300-350 cash now and pay the balance three weeks before. For bookings before end of August 2021, you can also take the deposit as a future travel voucher, so you don’t even completely “lose” the deposit.

      • Dan says:

Thanks, but I don’t mind my money being tied up, and I’ll be paying by Amex to give protection in case VS goes bust altogether.

But what I’m specifically interested in is how flexible these redemption bookings are (are they permitted the same COVID19 flexibility as a cash booking?).

  • Sundar says:

What’s the cancellation charges usually for economy on virgin ?

  • JohnT says:

BA have just offered me a mystery bonus for buying Avios – up to 50%! Can’t be bothered to look..

  • Calle says:

why would anyone buy these – Virgin might not be around much longer! might as well throw money into a bin!

    • Rhys says:

Things look a lot more rosey for Virgin with a vaccine in the coming months than they did 6 months ago 🙂

  • Motormike says:

Under the Black Friday 2020 Terms and Conditions:

Once a booking has been confirmed:
    a) Cancellations are not permitted;
    b) No compensation and/or refund will be made available; and
    c) Route or name changes are not permitted.

Assuming this applies to all cash and redemption bookings?

    • Rob says:

No, redemption bookings should follow normal rules.

Those rules should also not apply to cash tickets because the press release VS sent us SPECIFICALLY flags up the ability to make the usual free date and name changes, subject to payment of fare difference.

      • Gareth says:

I’ve got SA already booked for March using 50k miles and 2 vouchers to travel in premium for 2. I was looking at cancelling this and buying premium cash on sale and using vouchers to upgrade to business … this would cost £1334 for 2 the agent told me. The concern I have is that the cash ticket is so cheap, that if it gets to March and it’s still quarantine but the flight is still on… we could be looking at £100’s more for a date change using ‘normal’ fare prices. I am naturally over cautious but is this as big a risk as it sounds or am I over thinking it ?

        • Jonathan says:

Stick with a redemption booking for the extra flexibility in the current climate.

    • Ikaz says:

Try booking through Delta, KLM or Air France for different conditions…

  • James A says:

What bucket do eco redemptions fall under? Economy classic?

Can’t believe I’m asking this, that’s how far my points game has fallen 😂
