When can I travel?

Whenever you want, as long as reward seats are available. Bookings are available as far out as Virgin Atlantic allows booking, which is currently 20th October 2021.

Can I cancel these tickets as usual?

Yes, subject to the usual cancellation fee. You should note that if you need to change the date of your flight, it will reprice at the full Points cost and you would need to pay extra.

Can this be combined with Virgin credit card vouchers?

Yes. You can use your Virgin Atlantic Mastercard vouchers, explained in our credit card review here, to upgrade redemptions booked under this offer or as a 2-for-1, effectively netting you two tickets for 25% of the usual rate!

  • Carol says:

Due to Rob’s tip off last night, I booked U/C to LA at midnight and have just used my upgrade voucher over the phone for my partner’s ticket. This cost 32400 miles for PE to UC upgrade and 72400 for mine. The flights are priced at £3400 each.
    Thank you Rob!

  • James says:

Also wondering if we can use with the credit card vouchers…

  • Harold R says:

The rules on free changes are only for bookings up to end of August 2021 so if booking a September redemption what are the regular points cancellation rules with virgin?

    • ChrisC says:

Cancel up to 24 hours before departure and full return of miles and cash save for an approx £35 admin fee

    • Boon says:

Do the COVID rules on free changes also apply to Redemption flights? The Virgin website wasn’t clear.

So are you saying that if I book a reward flight in this sale, for flights before end August, that I can cancel them at any time with a full points and tax refund? No FTV like BA to faff around?

      • Carol says:

Just a £30 charge. If you cancel within 24 hours of your flight departing then you lose your miles

  • Andrew M says:

I was also told by an agent this morning that the credit card upgrade voucher couldn’t be combined with the sale. The terms and conditions state – “Points Plus Money bookings, Upgrade rewards and Companion rewards are excluded from this offer. Vouchers are combinable with this offer.”, which isn’t totally clear to me.

    • OT says:

You must have got an ill-informed agent. The one I spoke to processed the companion reward vouchers across both my wife’s account and my own, so we got 4 tickets to TLV for May bank holiday in UC.

      • Andrew M says:

Thanks, I’m currently on hold to see if a different agent will apply the voucher. LHR-JNB in the A350, September next year in Upper Class for 25,000 points return if they will do it!

        • Carol says:

The agent I spoke to said that the staff were unaware of the details of this sale, but he was great and was happy to apply the voucher. Hopefully they will all now be familiar with the procedure

  • Rahaney says:

Do you have to ring to use a credit card voucher? I’ve never received an email with details to use online, just a line on my Virgin statement saying it was awarded?

  • ChrisW says:

I can live with my miles dying but I am very hesitant to have hundreds of pounds in surcharges die with it if Virgin don’t survive the winter…

  • Kazim says:

why can I book a direct flight on the AF website for LHR-MIA, but the virgin website does not allow me to?

    • Jonathan says:

They might be able to tell you, if you can get through to them that is!

I wonder if this approach works with booking flights to Havana…………

  • Lewis Beecham says:

Trying to get my head around the new upgrade rules to maximise this. As a red member, if I were to book 2x PE flights, I can use my 1 upgrade voucher to upgrade both passengers one-way to UC with no extra miles? Providing there is the availability of course.
