The HfP chat thread – Sunday 22nd November

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/11/22/the-hfp-chat-thread-sunday-22nd-november/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

How soon does Morrisons get added on Airtime Rewards. Its been a day but perhaps it takes a few days. So I need to do anything from my end?

  • PK says:

Can we pay off Halifax mortgage with Curve metal (underlying being virgin or hsbc world elite)?

  • idontfly says:

Sorry in advance looking for guidance on a booking. We are hoping to go to Chile end December booked through avios. They require a negative COVID test within 72 hours of arrival, it is a 16 hour flight so it is super tight. My question – if we are positive we wont be able to cancel with 24 hours notice. Therefore do we have to claim on insurance or will BA allow flight changes with less than 24 hours notice. Thank you

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

One would hope that BA would rebook you as a gesture of good will because technically you’d be denied boarding anyway.

If not, it’ll be an insurance job.

To be honest, the chances are very low but somewhere it will have happened already. So they’ll probably be a bit flexible. If you wanted to absolutely mitigate the chances you could:
Have a test at say arrival time – 70 hours (to account for any potential delays), do a test that is returned within 24 hours or same day (so arrival time – 46), 6 hours to cancel as flight is 16 hours and needs 24 hours notice.

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

Although, a significant delay anywhere and you are royally f*****

        • idontfly says:

thanks for your help, i think it is super tight to be honest. If only the tests didnt cost so much i could take as you say closer to departure as well.

          • A says:

So say you get the test on Monday 9am, you have results within 24 hours so Tuesday 9am and your flight is Wednesday – once you’re on the flight wouldn’t it be sensible to stop the count down? as everyone on said flight would be clear of covid as they need to be in order to fly? I know it doesn’t work like this but it would be more logical for travel?

          • idontfly says:

I agree with your comment A, but unfortunately the Chilean authorities dont see it that way. We have checked many times and they definately say with 72 hours of arrival not departure.

          • Clive says:

Remember you could apply for an FTV up to one hour prior to departure

    • TGLoyalty says:

You can take an FTV right up to checkin so with an hours notice.

Can anyone advise on hotels in Lisbon please? Travelling end of February.

    • BP says:

Stayed at the Iberostar with a group of friends in September and it was nice for the price with a great pool area. I’d say it’s more of a very nice 4* hotel than a 5*. Maybe a little far from the tourist areas but Uber was super cheap. Breakfast was OK.

Going next year for a stag weekend and have booked the IC using points as a backup if the stag party choose to stay somewhere crappy.

    • Rachel R says:

IC is nice nice. And H10 duque de Loule also good.

    • Michael C says:

Nice hotel in a great location so you can walk everywhere (which Lisbon is wonderful for) is the Heritage Avenida Liberdade.

  • Annabel says:

Has the selfridges offer on Amex finished now? Can’t seem to see it anymore. Thanks

    • TGLoyalty says:

There was spend £150 get £30 that ended on 15th

      There’s a new spend £100 get £30 which is valid until 20/12/2020

    • Harry T says:

I have the spend £100, receive £30 back on a few cards. There was a previous, less generous offer, for spend £150 get £30 back – that expired recently. Might be able to see it in your expired offers, if you saved it.

      • Annabel says:

Thank you both. I don’t think I saved it when I saw it recently and now going back I can’t see it anymore. Teach me not to save it just in case next time 🙄

        • Richard says:

I’ll second that. I was going to buy the enemy a handbag too, that will teach me.

      • Annabel says:

Just found it under expired offers. Ran out on 15/11 sadly

        • Rob says:

I realised last night that we needed something Selfridges sold, so I put together a little basket to get to £100. Only at that point did I realise that I wasn’t targeted for their offer, I had just convinced myself I was after reading all the comments here!

  • jason says:

Any thoughts on current best “Marriott” reward stay in central London, I have platinum and looking for a base for xmas shopping assuming lockdown gets lifted. I am assuming most with lounges are closed ? cheers

  • ChrisA says:

Apologies if noted before. There is either a glitch or sale that I was not aware of on VS HKG to LHR redemptions – 28k miles one way in UC.

  • Bill says:

IOM- LHR Loganair can now be booked for departures from December to March. See the app. Rumoured to be adding S21 in due course
