The HfP chat thread – Saturday 21st November

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/11/21/the-hfp-chat-thread-saturday-21st-november/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Clos19 25% off with LVMHUK code. Stacks with Amex £35 off £175

    • Nigel W says:

      Thanks Will.

Works nicely on some Veuve Clicquot. A box of 6 with 25% off is £175.50, then with the £35 back a bottle becomes £23.41!

      • Aristeides says:

Merci both. Especially as I missed out on the Veuve in their private sale 30% deal a couple of days ago.

      • Andrew says:

6 bottles of this at Tesco at the movement works out as £26.25 each if anyone doesn’t have the Amex offer. On offer for £35, and all wines and champagne are buy 6 save 25%. And are individually gift boxed.

    • babyg says:

      Thanks Will!

  • YL says:

Read yesterday’s comments quite late last night, did I understand it correctly that the Real Slim Shady card can bend to feet the seagull with no cash advance fees?

I got hit once with revolutionaries, so have tried to avoid that happen again. Thanks in advance.

    • Allan says:

I tried it this morning and it failed so not sure it does work?

      • The Urbanite says:

There are mixed reports of paying off the Seagulls with Bendy. For some people it works fine and others get declines.

        • S says:

No luck with Beardy underlying – got two Bendy cards (one it asks for a security code, then fails and the other just fails without anything)

      • YL says:

        Thanks Allan.

    • dezbez says:

Speaking of seagulling, anyone else had the offer for their shop?

    • Pangolin says:

Last time I tried it produced a cash advance charge but you can use it to top up Rev directly, and it will work indirectly for paying Amazon’s CC and Ernie.

      • YL says:

Last time I top up with Rev with it also produced a cash advance.

        • TGLoyalty says:

Rev produced a fee direct or via bendy.

          Seagulls via bendy doesn’t.

          • Pangolin says:

Weird how it works for me and not for some people. I top up Rev virtually every week and never get charged.

  • mart says:

    another baholidays question
what would happen if we booked a package – flights and hotel in club then say closer to the time of paying the balance we were a bit poorer and wanted to downgrade to economy how is this calculated?
feel like we are trying to book 2 years of holidays into 1.

    • Anna says:

I don’t think this would be possible as you would be bound by the Ts and Cs at time of booking. You’d probaby have to cancel and rebook in economy.

  • Lady London says:

@TGLoyalty I owe you a code use, do you do Airtime Rewards?

    • TGLoyalty says:

Hi yeah XMKEY9J6 hopefully you get some good offers.

      • Lady London says:

        Tx signing up now

        • TGLoyalty says:

          Thanks.

Btw looks like Amazon being taken off the shelves in some store. Managed to get a £250 card and activated fine. So there must just be one single bad batch.

  • Kevin says:

Thanks for those who shared the HN beauty code on last sunday that enabled me bought something and just luckily to trigger the Amex offer in the last min.

  • Matt says:

Is anybody else having trouble with the new pop-up ads when viewing the site on an iPhone? I normally read it on the laptop, but this morning I opened an article on my phone and the screen was filled with the ad for One&Only Malaysia – the problem is that the ‘X’ in the top right corner of the pop-up is obscured by the phone browser’s address bar at the top, so it’s impossible to get rid of the pop-up, and I can’t read the article. The pop-up should be sized correctly so that it doesn’t fill the whole screen, leaving the top of the pop-up visible below the address bar.

  • Kevin says:

I got my triggered for 3 separate stays with acommutative paid.

  • The Original Nick says:

    Thanks. I’ve just used it.
