The HfP chat thread – Friday 20th November

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/11/20/the-hfp-chat-thread-friday-20th-november/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Saw on foreign blog Amazon has moved Black Friday to 4th December.

    not sure if UK/anywhere else

  • Keely says:

Morning all , can I apply a 241 voucher to an existing booking? I have economy flights booked for next year and might as well not waste the voucher .

Actually as I’m typing I’ve realised- I could perhaps do another ‘dummy’ booking with and then cancel for a FWC voucher to extend the date…..

    • Anna says:

You can do the voucher thing but they won’t usually apply a 241 to an existing booking (only to the return leg if booked separately), or you can cancel your original flight and re-book with the voucher (though that would entail calling BA at the moment … )

    • AJA says:

You can’t apply a 2-4-1 voucher to an existing booking. You can only add inbound flights to an existing outbound booking made with the 2-4-1. But doing a booking then cancelling for FTV would work. When does the 2-4-1 expire? Remember the FTV is use by 30 Apr 2022 not book by.

      • Keely says:

Thanks it’s expires aug 2021, so I could use for a booking in April 2022 , I wasn’t planning to travel then as already have stuff booked but seems a shame to let it go Zzz

  • Pete says:

Just passing through T5. Only about 30 flights leaving this afternoon. Galleries North open and completely full. Self-service sandwiches and crisps/muffins, “bar” service for hot and cold drinks (inc booze).

    • Lady London says:

So no table service? I gather the Q-code thing and ordering in the BA North Galleries lounge was working really well.

  • MT says:

Cathay Pacific Green Friday promo is launched. Worth a gander if there are 2 of you looking to travel towards the end of next year.

  • Michael C says:

Looks like LoganAir have been awarded LHR slots…hopefully for IOM!

    • Andrew says:

      Better still, EDI!

      Or maybe DDE?

As a remote lifeline Highland airfield operated by HIAL (less than an hour from Edinburgh), there’s no departure tax to pay on flights.

For people flying from Central Scotland code-sharing with Emirates, Qatar, Turkish, KLM, or United that could save £lots.

  • sam says:

It’s not showing on my app, I recall it is a trial for some users only…

  • Andrew says:

It dropped off my app a few days ago.

  • AndyW says:

Question for anyone who cancelled and rebooked during the 50% of avios sale, have you had a refund of the original payment yet? Still waiting here and forget what timescale they put on the refund.

    • Ikaz says:

No refund yet for me, my flight is next year so I am guessing that it hasn’t be re-ticketed yet, if this is the case then it should automatically get re-ticketed before departure and the refund will come then. I am not in a rush so won’t push, the refund was about £10

      • Nadeshka says:

I have a flight for Feb that I booked on the last day of the sale – ticketed yesterday and refund hit today.
