The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 18th November

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/11/18/the-hfp-chat-thread-wednesday-18th-november/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

5 nights at Hampton Liverpool City Centre would cost 52k points. (Assuming that you have a valid reason to stay)

  • Tracey says:

Rob, the page is jumping continually here. Using Safari on an iPad.

  • Yuff says:

Is there anywhere to get a bonus for a business platinum supplementary card?

  • KBuffett says:

Does anyone here use Flagstone Investment Management ?
    Would you recommend it?

  • pinperl says:

    Hi everyone,
I got a new amex offer today, spend 500 pounds on Etihad airways get 250 back…
on other cards it’s only get 20% back….

    • Andrew says:

See earlier discussion on page 1

      • Polly says:

Really wonder if people bother to read the comments before posting the same questions etc.

LL. Felt really sorry for Lady London Et al, constantly having to repeat their advice on an hourly basis, let alone daily, helping people with their BA refund process. Drove me mad, the amount of her time spent on it. It was superb. So so helpful. All they had to do was read through the comments the day before, or even the hour before!

        • TGLoyalty says:

Issue with not having a forum is all that great advice is essentially lost in a daily chat that’s slowly aging

        • Marcin says:

@Rob – perhaps this calls for a new feature 😀 something like a community maintained list of hot/recent/frequently asked questions?

          • Andrew says:

That would be great to clean things up, so if for example you’re not interested in Curve you don’t have to read the same questions about bendy seagulls on an hourly basis!

          • TGLoyalty says:

Bendy beardy keeps feeding the gulls.

        • Jill (Kinkell) says:

I tend to screen shot useful advice, which gives date and person and save in a HfP file. Been really useful

          • Jill (Kinkell) says:

            That was comment to Polly

          • Gormlesstraveller says:

Which browser is best for quick screenshotting and saving?

          • Rob says:

In Windows you just press the PrtSc button, top right. You can set up which folder it saves it in. We do it all the time to get the images used in articles.

          • Polly says:

Me too Jill, find it very useful. As l often need to refer back to some info.

But specific fora will be great, once they get them up and running.

  • Rahaney says:

Many thanks to all for the Amex/Morrison’s discussion the past few weeks, credit applied this morning 🙂

    • Reney says:

Hi, can you share how many days between purchase and credit posting? I made my purchase on Saturday morning and credit still not applied yet. Oh and still waiting to hear back from Amazon about my declined gift card given Morrison’s refused to help!

      • Rahaney says:

Bought on 13th, offer went in app as redeemed yesterday, credit paid today 18th.

  • VickyTM says:

Does Virgin Atlantic card treat Curve as a cash advance? Looking to get one to pay my tax bill. Thanks

    • memesweeper says:

be aware you may have to *pay* curve for that and therefore you need to be paying a sufficiently large amount to HMRC for this to be worthwhile

  • Sandra says:

Laithwaites wine – for those that ordered last minute like me, the debit has gone through overnight and posted as 16th (day I ordered) and the £20 Amex credit is already showing. No email yet to say the wine is on its way though!

    • EmmaB says:

I placed a Laithwaite’s order on 11th Nov, it arrived via DPD on the 14th – I got the dispatch notification on the 13th.
