The HfP chat thread – Monday 16th November

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/11/16/the-hfp-chat-thread-monday-16th-november/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Is anyone having issues using an honored card to directly push through creative settlements? I have two highly-esteemed supps, both creatively failing today for the first time ever (after a year+ of no issues). Is it me or is anyone else finding similar? Thanks in advance.

The Guardian is reporting strike action by firefighters, engineers, operations, security and baggage staff, which will take place on 1 December, when the new contracts take effect, 14 December and 17 and 18 December.

Someone once recommended a airport transfers website on here where you tell them where you need to get to and the drivers bid on your journey. Can anyone remember the name ?

  • Jimbob says:

Anyone know what the maximum annual curve limit is?

  • Paul says:

Anyone else having problems using Curve Metal to pay HMRC? I’ve signed up new to Metal purely for this seemingly advertised benefit but the HMRC website gives me an error “We are unable to process cards of this type” :o(

    • Jonathan says:

HMRC have advised that from 1st November they will be charging for business debit cards. You need curve to change your card type to personal but be warned your limits will drop.

  • Munch says:

Struggling to add an IHG credit card to my curve. I completed the details, entered the verification code from the Creation text and then Curve requests a code from my statement C-[XXXXXX] against a charge of £0.76. As the transaction is pending I can’t see the code. I tried yesterday thinking the code would show once moved from pending but has now disappeared from my statement.
Any ideas – do I need to call Creation?

    • Alex D says:

I added my IHG card about 2 days ago as had a new one delivered, didn’t need to do any of this. I had to verify after they sent an SMS and that was it… maybe remove and try again? Or call I suppose

    • GaryC says:

I had the same issue – it will appear on your statement in a day or two.

  • BJ says:

On the banking front: 15 bottle case of wine for switching to Virgin Money current account so perhaps the future will bring a miles offer. Today is the last day to get a £20 amazon voucher for signing up to Santander 0% 18m zero fee balance transfer card. Need to go via a link on the Lewis site.

    • Harry T says:

Tried the Santander offer and got rejected! Unsure why, but it seemed to be automatic because they emailed about the rejection in about five mins.

      • BJ says:

I was sitting drumming my fingers, you posted and I stopped lol. They are probably screening out applicants that are mre likely than not to clear the balance.

        • Harry T says:

Ha you were mid way through applying? Perhaps I saved you a rejection, maybe you’re missing out 😂

      • Vit says:

If Harry got rejected, I wouldn’t try myself then…🙄 Joking aside, always got rejected by santander that I start to take it personal now. 😅

        • Harry T says:

Haha I’m only a threat to the covid security of nation states, not banks 😂. Glad to hear I’m not the only one, was slightly offended on some level.

          • Mo says:

Yeah agree as above, I’ve been rejected more than once from Santander despite having a good credit score, always paying things in time etc and even having a current account with them always in credit 😂
