Some airline route news:

Jet2 opens new base at Bristol Airport

Jet2 is hoping for a big post-Covid summer season next year. It will station three aircraft at Bristol Airport in order to serve 33 European destinations.

Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and Turkey will all see direct flights from Bristol.

Four routes will be completely new to Bristol Airport: Almeria, Kalamata, Lesvos and Izmir. Click to expand the route map above.

Loganair returns to Teesside

After a three year absence, Loganair is relaunching at Teesside International with routes to five destinations.

It will use an Embraer 145 aircraft to operate Aberdeen and Belfast City from 1st February, whilst Dublin, Jersey and Newquay are set to launch over the summer.

Loganair will go head to head with domestic competitor Eastern Airways, which also plans to operate four of the five new routes. Only Jersey is currently unserved since Flybe pulled out last year.

Iberia Express will run 16 flights to Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Madrid from the 26th December until 3rd January.

  • James says:

Well done on the nominations. I do like to look on here for latest travel news but wish there were a few more features on economy travel or options for those who have more modest points balances..

  • Princess says:

Congratulations!!! It is so good you all get some recognition!!!!

  • Tony says:

To me, it defies belief that the struggling regional airlines seem to go out of their way to make life difficult by going head to head like this. I know they can’t collide but Ryanair doesn’t fly these routes for a very good reason.

  • Rich says:

Teesside has always been in NCL’s shadow. I do wonder why they bother with anything other than AMS and ABZ to lap up the industry traffic. Holiday flights seem to take away business from NCL, but not enough to be self-sustaining!

+1 for Jet2. Everything I’ve heard about them during COVID has been positive.

    Congrats on the nominations.

  • Lady London says:

There should be an award for keeping us going during covid”. HfP has consistently come through on that.

  • John says:

I’m surprised there isn’t an award to do with sustainability or climate change in some way.

    • Lady London says:

      sorry, but yawn.
      enough virtue signalling

      • Rob says:

There was something similar in 2019. However, the number of categories has been halved this year.

      • John says:

        Flat earther, LL?

That’s a shame Rob, I wonder if it will come back.

        • Lady London says:

Nup. Just tired of virtue signalling.

Though I suppose it is Saturday so I will try to relax a bit. After all, tomorrow’s Sunday which has sometimes been troll alert day 🙂

          • Doug M says:

I hardly think that’s virtue signalling. Now every time someone tells me they’re a frontline NHS worker……
Incidentally I’m surprised no sustainability award, because any part of the travel industry loves to promote that.

          • TGLoyalty says:

Let’s be fair to lots of frontline NHS workers they are usually under compensated for the roles they do and over worked with very little recognition. So if it’s a nurse etc I’m glad they are getting some recognition for it.

Sorry @HarryT etc I think you Drs are very well compensated and usually well recognised so I’m less forgiving!

        • Rob says:

Probably. The event has been massively slimmed this year.

    • Harry T says:

      @TG
We’ve effectively had continuous pay cuts for the last twenty years but I agree my nursing, radiography, HCA etc colleagues deserve a pay rise.

  • Sundar says:

Congratulations Rob, Rhys, Anika and Sinead. Good luck.

  • DB2020 says:

Congratulations Rob and team. Really appreciate your work on this site, so the nominations are an excellent recognition of your work. Hoping you win each of the awards you have been nominated for.

As an aside, lots of readers have commented here about the possibility of Covid-19 not spreading in warmer weather, or something like that. A gentle reminder to all: Brazil and India have mostly hot weather, except in the southern highlands of the former and the Himalayas in the case of the latter. The number of people infected in each of those countries speaks for itself.

Nevertheless, we can and should live in hope!

    A lovely weekend to all.

    • Alex Sm says:

Well, don’t forget about the sizes of their population! India is doing much better in cases per capita than let’s say US and Europe
