Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

The HfP chat thread – Tuesday 10th November

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/11/10/the-hfp-chat-thread-tuesday-10th-november/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I signed up for Airtime Rewards last week, mainly because I’d seen the comments here about Morrisons being back. However, there’s no sign of Morrisons on there, or any supermarkets for that matter. Do the offers appear gradually?

  • Harry T says:

I’m afraid I don’t, but thought it might be worth reminding you that you can use Clubcard vouchers for three times value to get a discounted railcard. Hope that helps.

  • Super Secret Stuff says:

Don’t forget to stack with student discount if you can!

  • Chris Heyes says:

“We are sitting on some interesting airline loyalty news which has an 11.30am embargo slapped on it”

Can someone explain what the interesting loyalty news was as I can’t really make out if it’s already been reported or if it’s been pushed back again.

    • Chris K says:

Was deferred again but putting the clues together I’ve concluded it’s something to do with not eating meat or cheese.

So…Greggs? Greggs vegan “sausage” roll Avios hookup?

      • MQ says:

If BA goes for Greggs the world really has gone mad. But it is 2020 …..anything can happen….

        • Harry T says:

I’m hoping they do a tie in with Waitrose but that’s purely because earning Avios from Waitrose would be convenient – there’s one 2 mins from me!

    • Rob says:

      Got pushed back again ….

  • Tw33ty says:

Went and bought a £150 gift card for Harvey nichols, hopefully will trigger the £30 back from amex.
Showing as Harvey nichols beauty bazzar on app atm, will see if it tracks when moves from pending.
What we’re others experience with this offer if they bought a gift card.?

  • Baji Nahid says:

Really annoyed after randomly getting 6 email from the british airways online store this morning that they are clawing back a total of 2348 avios points from a number of retailers because i dont meet the terms and conditions, what are they even on about. I bought the items and there is NOTHING that i have breached the terms and conditions for them to claw back. It really is a cat and dog situation with them to even get anywhere.

    • Sam says:

My harrods purchase hasn’t even tracked and its been delivered.

Seems like small purchases track FINE then any big transaction conveniently dont track.

      • Baji Nahid says:

I noticed the same with a river island order I have made, not got the credit back for it yet

    • Anna says:

It’s really annoying – sometimes if you use a special offer code or something they will claw the Avios back although it’s not very specific in the Ts & Cs. Though I did say recently that I wouldn’t put it past BA just to claw back a random few thousand Avios from each account and hope no one can be bothered to challenge it!

      • Baji Nahid says:

Said it well Anna, its incredibly frustrating because there isnt even an avenue available to challenge it which really grinds my gears! I really do hope something does change.

        • Sukes says:

Hi Baji maybe it’s disappeared but on the desktop BA E-Avios site I’ve always used the web chat function successfully to challenge clawbacked or missing pts – just upload receipts and details & they investigate. My favourite was a clawback by Currys for a TV which Currys told Avios their records proofed I had never picked up instore even after Avios had sent them my stamped instore receipt of pickup…Pts got reposted and they haven’t disappeared again…yet…

    • TGLoyalty says:

Stick to T C B unless it’s not on there or a significant difference in earnings.
