The HfP chat thread – Sunday 8th November

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/11/08/the-hfp-chat-thread-sunday-8th-november/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Report from IC Athens. After staying 5 nights in Plaka we moved to the IC which is about a 30min walk away. Booked Superior Room with AMB weekend cert and upgraded to King Junior Suite (living and dining area with separate bedroom and 2 bathrooms). Had booked a third night Standard room on 20k points and was asked if we wished to stay on in the suite for 20 euros supplement. … yeah !
Breakfast reduced from 25 Euros to a more digestible 16 euros and 15 euros credit as Ambassador. That’s the Ambassador fee more than recouped for the year.
It’s set back from the main 8 lane highway leading to the port so no road noise – a problem which affects the Grand Hyatt and Marriott which are much further away (from the Acropolis).
Few guests, very attentive and plentiful staff always ready to chat – all pleased that we’re here during difficult times.

    • Harry T says:

Sounds great, glad you had a good stay. Sounds like a very large “junior” suite!

@YH note that @meta speaks as one that was literally abandonedin another country by BA who cancelled his return flight and flatly refused to provide a replacement ticket on another airline leaving at close to the time on the same day @meta’s booked BA flight to get him home was cancelled on. BA had no more flights for 4 more days, which meant they were legally obliged if a routing on another airline was available, to provide @metaa ticket on that other airline instead. BA flatly refused.

    • meta says:

A few more days and this will fingers crossed be resolved in my favour!

  • Anuj says:

I have the 10% offer on my Amex, as it’s only once, how much £ of gift cards do you think I can get away with in one transaction on the self checkout?

    • Harry T says:

Assuming this is Morrison’s? Can usually do a few hundreds worth. There seems to be a cap on the JL ones though.

      • Anuj says:

Whoops yes meant Morrison’s, I think I did £1000 last time. I’d be interested if anyone did any more.

      • David says:

So the JL ones, can we clarify how much you can do at once? And whether self service checkout?

        • mark2 says:

I was stopped at one off £50.
So I bought Morrison’s gift cards with the offer (total £850 with Amazon) which I can use later for JL to do our shopping in Waitrose.
Has anyone managed to put more than £15 on One4All?

          • Andrew says:

The maximum you can deposit to a one4all is £120. It’s a money laundering thing.

          • mark2 says:

Yes the maximum is £120 but I and some others have found that it is stuck at £15 at present.

    • Lee says:

Bought £1000 Amazon GCs using self check out counter, no issue.

    • Dr C says:

I brought £2k amazon at manned till once, surprisingly they didn’t say anything
