We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

    I think I saw a comment sometime ago about Dragonpass. My visits are still set to expire Jan 21. Has anyone got lucky with an extension?

    Had online chat today with Amex. Told me that everyone is going to get the Harrods offer – they are sending e mails. Agent was not sure if Biz cards will get it though, so still confused. I await my e mail.

    OT are Donald Russel any good ? for xmas del ?

      Patience has gone out of the window these days. I find it very strange everyone is getting so excited on the day it starts!

    Just received my new Platinum card, is going to call Brighton see if they will kindly apply some offers to my account. Could anyone confirm if that £100 offer for Waitrose etc. are appeared on all Platinum card and when it will end? Thanks!

      Mine didn’t appear automatically but they added it on manually. I think it’s early December

        How long did you have the card before asking for the offer to be added? any big spend through the card?

          I waited until after the first statement to ask and got it right away.

          Got the John Lewis/Waitrose etc offer added for 2 family members, maybe only 2/3 weeks after having the card.
          One had hit the minimum spend but the other had a few hundred quid spend.

    My reward booking was cancelled by BA, but they said that I only can change my flight due to reward availability. I remember someone said that if flight was cancelled by BA, they should book a new one regardless reward availability. Does the rule change since covid ?

      Unless the rule has changed, you can (by phone) move it to ANY date within 355 days of the date you booked. NOT the date you were meant to fly – the date you physically made the booking.

        What happens if you can’t travel by 355 days. do you forfeit the booking amount?

          If BA have cancelled your flight you can get a full refund (via phone)

          You just ask for a refund instead. Most people cannot rebook because they booked almost 355 days in advance in the first place and so don’t have any travel window left.

            This is downright illegal if someone actually wants to fly. The fact that the GDS has an arbitrary time limit on the PNR is not your problem, it’s the airline’s. They should just cancel and reticket.

    If you are going to order from Harrods online to get up to £100 back don’t forget to do it through BA portal to get up to 12 Avios per £ (less on beauty).

      If they did stay open, they couldn’t serve food or drink.

        I guess if BA wanted they could give out food in a takeaway paper bag? But since it’s BA, they’ll shut the lounges I suppose.

    Wheely – can the Amex offer be used on the same app with multiple cards?

      It’s card specific. So you have to use it three times on a card with the offer saved.

        Great. So using three Amex cards in my name, using a single Wheely app, is OK?

        Someone mentioned a pre authroisation of £12 can be used as ‘one time’ and then two journeys

        But, yes, you can swap the card over after 3 rides.

        After ignoring this offer so far, I have become a convert and will do 6 rides this week to get my £100, as I have a lot of running around West London lined up.

          Ditto.
          The preauth does make it useful.
          I’m going to park at Harrods, free parking with Black Card, no congestion charge, get a Wheely to Selfridges, use buy 4 x Slefridges £150 gift cards, Wheely back to Harrrods, get my £100 gift card. I don’t use the Addison Lee credit much either, but at £10 it’s a little limited.
          I’m a happy Amex Plat customer. I hope they continue to tie in my custom.

    I’m sitting on a November BA redemption to a leisure route. Do they still let you rebook for any date (not subject to availability) if they cancel?

      See above — some customers service agents have not got the memo, but that is your right.
