The HfP chat thread – Monday 26th October

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/10/26/the-hfp-chat-thread-monday-26th-october/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

BA has entirely cancelled some short haul destinations services for November . I have a ticket direct to LCY to Ibiza, which has been cancelled but BA has refused to route me through another city in Spain such as BCN or MAD. They are saying they cannot book the connection on Iberia Express. They are offering a refund. My question is: don’t they have an obligation to get me to my destination, even if on another carrier?

    • Rob says:

Legally yes. However they won’t do it, so you’d need to book your own flight and then take BA to CEDR arbitration for the money.

Hi, I should be travelling to Berlin for a long weekend on the 18th of Dec. Does anyone know if there are rapid Coronavirus test facilities available on arrival at the airport.
Also we are planning to say in the Radisson Blu, is that a good choice or are their better options in that price range.

    • Jason says:

The Hilton is excellent, especially if the lounge is open

      • Rob says:

Search for my Pullman Berlin review. The Marriott is possibly the best Marriott in Europe if Postdamer Platz works for you. Grand Hyatt also used to be good but not been for ages. I know nothing about the Radisson other than it has the aquarium! Waldorf Astoria looks impressive but pricey. Frankly, Berlin probably has more good cheap hotels than any major Euro city.

          Rob and Jason,

Thanks Hilton and Marriott look great, I will contact both tomorrow to see what their CV arrangements are and what incentives they can offer.

Now I just need to sort out is getting a rapid test.

        +1

    • J says:

I did a test on arrival on Sunday early evening, result took just over 24 hours to come back. This is very good and I’ve probably been lucky as I’ve heard 3-4 days is possible (they advise 2-3 days).

Abe books works with e store and posts in a few days. Points earned on the cost of the books and not postage.

    • Colin MacKinnon says:

Thanks Liz, there are a few books I might buy that aren’t on Kindle – whereas I wouldn’t actually be taking the 🚂

  • ChrisC says:

Something ike Cardiff Central to Cardiff Queen Street might do. That’s £2.30

Just check the T&Cs about how long they take to post though.
