Your Avios have just become slightly more useful. From today, two new airlines have joined the oneworld alliance as affiliate members.

The two airlines joining oneworld are Japan Air Commuter and Hokkaido Air System. These companies are both majority owned by Japan Airlines Group, whose core Japan Airlines brand is a long-established full member of oneworld.

Japan Air Commuter and Hokkaido Air System join oneworld

These two airlines give you more options to earn and spend Avios in Japan. Between them, they fly to 20 Japanese cities. Four of these cities become oneworld airports for the first time:

  • Kikai
  • Okinoerabu
  • Tajima
  • Yakushima

Based in Kagoshima on Japan’s Kyushu island, Japan Air Commuter serves  the islands of Kagoshima, Okinawa and the western cities of Japan.

Hokkaido Air System, established in 1997, is based in Hokkaido, Sapporo and serves Hokkaido Prefecture and Aomori Prefecture on Honshu.

J-AIR and Japan Transocean Air, two other regional carries owned by Japan Airlines, are already oneworld affiliates.

It’s just a shame Japan have still got their borders closed to tourists!
