We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions. With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind. At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article. This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

I asked the other day about Ambassador upgrades if you book with points.

Went into my booking today for my IC Berlin trip next week (to cancel it following the German covid changes) and I had been allocated a ‘King Delux with Sofa’ rather than the ‘Superior’ room my points had put me in.

Looks lovely in the pictures. Shame I won’t get to see it.

  @ChrisC yes, I always get upgraded on points as Ambassador. Since having status at IC’s it’s always a suite even on points.

Virgin declined my status match request from BA Bronze to VS Silver! 🙁
Has anybody had any success in matching VS Silver from BA Bronze?

  VS will usually only status match if you show proof of booked or previous travel on routes they fly, along with a future Virgin booking on that route.

I can’t check in online with BA in the usual way for Cyprus. It says I need to checkin at airport – I am guessing this is because they need to review the Covid test and flight pass. Has anyone else travelled to Cyprus recently and found the same please?

Looks like my Ambassador gamble has not worked out, at least not yet. The promotion sign up date has been extended until the end of the year but the qualification dates to earn and redeem the free night remain the same.
