If you want to book a last minute half term break, the Government announced this afternoon that anyone returning to England from the Canary Islands (LanzaroteFuerteventura, Gran Canaria, La Palma, Tenerife, La Gomera), the Maldives, Denmark and Mykonos will no longer need to quarantine for 14 days.

The quarantine requirement will be come into force from 4am on SUNDAY morning.   If you were planning to head back before then, I recommend you add on a couple of days to your holiday!

Liechtenstein has been added to the quarantine list.

Note that the rest of Spain remains on the quarantine list. Only the Canary Islands are exempt.

Travel corridors update

BA Holidays has just launched a Canary Islands flash sale to celebrate, with £100 off packages booked by Tuesday 27th October. Here is the small print:

Savings apply to new holiday package bookings only where a minimum spend, qualifying destination and cabin is met. Eligible holiday package bookings with a total cost of £1,500 per booking save £100 per booking made between 18:00 Thursday 22 October and 23:59 on Tuesday 27 October 2020. Valid on economy (Euro Traveller cabin) holidays in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife. A ‘Holiday package’ is a Flight + Hotel booking; hotels added to flights after a flight has been selected or booked will not be eligible. Holiday package bookings including multiple destinations are not eligible. Valid for travel between 23 October 2020 and 30 September 2021 only. Please check full terms and conditions at ba.com/offers

The Government has already amended the list of countries exempt from the Foreign Office ‘do not travel’ list (click here). This is usually the trigger for being able to abandon your holiday plans and make a successful travel insurance claim.

The official ‘travel corridor’ list is on this page of the Government website.

Someone has probably mentioned this already, but as of tomorrow Germany requires 14 day quarantine (or until negative test) for travellers from all of the UK – previously it was regional.

OT: Booking a hotel for friends

My friend wants me to book a 2 night stay at one of Hampton hotels in London. Can I just book it for them and add one of them as an additional guest? Would it be a breach of the rules? My status does not get me any ‘perks’ at Hamptons.

    • Charlieface says:

Prob is a breach of rules, but they are unlikely to notice.
If you give them a credit card in your name they can just say they are you. Otherwise put them down as guest and add a note that they will check in first.

Last week I booked a room in a nice hotel for my partner so she has some time away from the baby. Booking was in my name (due to additional benefits I get). We went there together, had lunch, I told reception that she will stay and they were fine with this. Maybe not the same with friends but I think it’s a comparable situation.

      Perfectly fine

Once issued, the Reward is not transferable and may be used only by the individual named on the Reward. If a person other than the individual named on the Reward documentation attempts to redeem the Reward, the Reward will be deemed void and accommodations and/or transportation will be denied.”

so funny that China has 0 person infected for their golden week, something like 6 billion + people travel and it is still on UK quarantine list, this won’t help tourism sector. they test 10 million people in a week and we struggle for a test result, then the bbc News 7k+ for a consultant. don’t what to say to the government

    • Lee says:

I think China requires 21-28 days quarantine for travellers from all of the world, not helping tourism sector anyway

      • Erico1875 says:

I suspect a huge cover up of numbers in China.

        • Dave says:

probably yes, I do agree. but seems their economy is back on normal

        • jil says:

at the begining of pandemic definitely, now given the strength of quarantine and other measures, I think the nearly 0 case is real

      • Dave says:

I think on people travel from abroad need quarantine, domestic travel does not. but they have huge domestic market, so makes sense to have tighter control for international travellers.

    • TGLoyalty says:

I’m sure most of the numbers in this post are made up but 6 billion people travel in a country with 1.4bn population?

1.4bn people and test 10m in a week vs UK 70m and test c300k a day? Based upon that UK is actually doing a much higher %?

      • Dave says:

sorry I mean 600million people travel, and they test a 10 million city in 7 days because it has 12 positive cases.

        • TGLoyalty says:

Yeah and if you believe their numbers they’ve carried out 111m tests vs UK 31m.

They have different rules on state intervention and public acceptance via force. You still have idiots here not isolating after they actually test postive!

    • Harry T says:

I agree the UK government is shambolic and dreadful, but I’m not convinced data from China is entirely reliable.

  • Bob says:

A bit unrelated, but what’s the usual price for a round trip first class ticket to Washington DC from London?

    • Rhys says:

Around the price it currently is I would say. It was a similar price in a sale last year.

  • Tom says:

    OT Hilton Status match

I can confirm that the double nights promotion works – I’ve completed 5 nights few days ago and just received an email that I’ve been ‘upgraded’ to Gold status. Now, I’ll definitely try to do 4 more nights so I can receive a diamond status.

  • Alan says:

Well I guess one upside to having zero travel booked is not having to worry about the quarantine list hokey cokey! 😕
