The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 21st October

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/10/21/the-hfp-chat-thread-wednesday-21st-october/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Currently mid-stay at the Bath Indigo, in the King Suite Vault, for the princely sum of 27.5k/night courtesy of Rob/HfP – thx👌 😊
Lovely boutique hotel, quirky, not pretentious and as a Platinum Elite all sorts of freebies given inc. complimentary mini-bar, drinks at the bar & mini chocolates. Rooms are gorgeous OH loves the standalone bath). And very central.
Anyone else who managed to snag one, you’re in for a treat (assuming Boris/Covid doesn’t stop you)

    • Gareth says:

Were any comments made at reception about the bargain/error?

    • Mr. AC says:

Thx for the info! Stayed on points too recently (not in the King Suite Vault, “regular” Premium room), loved it as well.
Are any of the King Suite Vault no-step access (via elevator), or do you need to traverse some number of steps? One of the quirks of the hotel is that it’s made up of many separate older buildings, so a lot of the rooms are only accessible via 1 or 2 flights of stairs.

    • Harry T says:

So they honoured the points booking for the Suite? Amazing!

    • dezbez says:

Gareth: no, no mention at all. It was all very slick. Maybe they’ve got used to hiding it!
Mr AC: no, unfortunately the lifts only go up. I assume, given their name, that all Vault rooms are below ground level – we are two flights down which I think is the lowest. If it helps, the steps are relatively shallow with very solid handrails

If a flight is cancelled easyjet currently permit refunds or change of route when rebooking. Route changes are permitted through to Sept 2021 which is when the current forward booking window ends. My question is whether there is window within which I need to request a refund? So if my cancelled flight was April 2020 do I need to make a decision about refund or rebooking by April 2021 (for example) ?

At of 11.1PM 23rd BST Germany has put the whole of the UK on their high risk list.

This from the UK GOV website

    https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/germany/entry-requirements

“From 11.01pm BST on 23 October, the designated high risk areas will be extended to include the whole of the UK Anyone who has been in the designated high risk areas in the two weeks prior to their arrival in Germany is required to proceed directly to their accommodation and quarantine for 14 days or until they can show evidence of a negative test result. …”

Spotted this earlier on a flyer talk post.

This is clearly my fault as I booked for Berlin last night to go next week.

BA refund on the way as within 24 hours of booking. Hotel on points.

    • Harry T says:

Yes, but some areas are testing on arrival and you only have to isolate until you get the result (if it’s negative)?

      • Harry T says:

“ Travellers entering Germany from a designated risk area must take a COVID-19 test. They must also enter quarantine for 14 days, although in most federal states they are released from quarantine if they test negative.”

      • Pid says:

Do you know what the turn around time is and are the tests free?
