Earn 10 Bonvoy points per £1 with the Marriott Bonvoy American Express card

As part of Week of Wonders, Marriott Bonvoy has launched a special deal for the Marriott Bonvoy American Express credit card.

Until 31st January, you will receive a whopping 10 points per £1 when you use your card to pay for Marriott Bonvoy hotels.

If you value a Marriott Bonvoy point at 0.5p (as we conservatively do at HfP) then you are getting points worth 5% of your hotel spending.

This offer applies to both new and existing cardholders. If you have a large Marriott International hotel stay coming up, it may be worth applying for the card purely to pick up 10x points on your stay. A £2,000 bill would generate 20,000 points after all.

15 elite night credits each year – this is good enough to trigger Silver Elite status by itself, and puts you 15 nights nearer Gold, Platinum or Titanium Elite

2 points per £1 on your day to day spending

6 points per £1 on spending at Marriott Bonvoy hotels (increased to 10 points per £1 until 31st January)

Gold Elite status in Marriott Bonvoy if you spend £15,000 in a card year

a free night voucher (valid for a room costing up to 25,000 points) if you spend £25,000 in a card year

a sign-up bonus of 20,000 Marriott Bonvoy points when you spend £3,000 in your first 90 days

There is an annual fee of £75. You only qualify for the sign-up bonus if you haven’t had any personal American Expres card in the previous 24 months, although you do receive all of the other benefits.

I can confirm that the 10x have been crediting since at least Friday.

One thing I do find a pain though is that there are a number of hotels, particularly new ones that the system does not automatically register as Marriott Properties. I have found this particularly with some of the newer Luxury Collection properties. I normally get it sorted swiftly through the online chat function (I have to share a link with the property on the Marriott site otherwise their own list says it’s not a Marriott hotel) although on one occasion the person I chatted to was badly misinformed trying to tell me that the bonus points would come later from he hotel. That was a time wasting battle!

The 15 elite nights is the main reason I have kept the card though.

  Sorry, I can’t actually remember. I didn’t feel the need to chase, so it must have been quick. 15 nights from the Amex and 13 nights for being Gold last year (courtesy of Amex Plat) made attaining Marriott Platinum status easy this year.

Wish the Marriott card had more offers for Marriott properties for me. BA card and PLT card has Marriott and other hotels offers , but none on the Marriott card itself

Not sure if this is a glitch, but the Gleam widget keeps saying ‘verification needed’ and insisting I log into a social media or gmail account. I can’t see any reason why it needs to have access to that stuff for verification (identity theft, maybe… 😉 I’ve already given it an email address, so it can easily send me a double-opt-in if that’s required. Not a good look 😉

    Rob – in case it helps track down whatever the issue may be, what I had happen was:
    1) Tried to use the same details as I had used (apparently successfully) the previous day, but got asked for verification, hence original message here after trying a few times.
    2) After Sinead’s reply I tried again but got the same issue, so logged out (not sure why I was logged in but I assume entering my name and email previously counted as a login) and tried again with a different email address.
    3) This time I was not asked for verification but did have to go through an ‘account recovery’ process (check my email for a code, enter code into form etc). Then I got an email saying my entry had been received (which I didn’t get for the previous day’s competition, so I may or may not have been entered into that one despite the widget saying I had 1 entry 😉
    4) I was going to say that I suspect the issue is therefore specific to certain email addresses – but then I remembered that I had a similar problem on the first competition this week (Tuesday?) which I solved by switching to a different device (But that didn’t work this time…). So it may be device-related – or not 😉 Odd though – I can’t find anything definitely consistent…

Well, I hadn’t as it was my first attempt. Hopefully others don’t get this message. I’ve passed on entering today’s competition.

Last time I stayed at this property, I decided to re inact Wannabee for a laugh to post on you tube, needless to say the reception staff were not amused as its obviously been done before, but not I am guessing by an overweight chap in his mid fifties dressed as Ginger Spice.
