The HfP chat thread – Monday 12th October

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/10/12/the-hfp-chat-thread-monday-12th-october/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Anyone else currently getting constant technical errors when trying to book reward flights? I’m getting all the way to what should be the confirmation screen and instead receiving a generic technical error.

I guess the system is being hit hard at the moment 🤪

What time is the Avios offer ending. I’m a bit pressed for time so really need to know if I need to get it done soon.

  • Tom says:

If i make a booking as part of the Avios sale could i ring next week to add my 2-4-1 voucher to the booking – i have just hit the spend target on my BA card but voucher hasn’t been issued yet! TIA

    • AJA says:

It does not work that way . You can’t book 2 tickets and then retrospectively add a 2-4-1. The only way to apply the 2-4-1 retrospectively is use the 2-4-1 to book the outbound and then call to add the inbound flights afterwards.

Trying to add Household member – it says Pending, but no email has arrived to confirm or otherwise. Any idea?

Also, if that person books now while Pending, will their Avios be added to household account when it’s sorted?

    Cheers.

    • ChrisC says:

It’s important to remember that their avios don’t get added to the HHA. Avios stay within each members individiual accounts.

As to a booking what matters is when the flight happens and is credited but the avios are still credited to the individual member.

Hi does anyone have any idea of how often the Hyatt £100 off £300 spend comes around. I am sorely tempted to go for a 3 for 2 nights via Emyr at Hyatt Great Scotland Yard, the deal he offers along with the discount on spend makes it cheap to stay there with the ‘extras’ offered. OH birthday coming up in late Dec, trouble is the dining etc is limited due to CV19, but then that is unlikely to change anytime soon?

    • Rob says:

It’s all up in the air at the moment, very difficult to predict anything frankly.

    • Carol says:

We are here at the moment on this deal. Every member of staff is so incredibly helpful and friendly, and all seem incredibly proud to work here. We had an upgrade 2 categories above the room we booked. I would not hesitate in staying here again

  • YC says:

Update from the weekend regarding flight number changing (but times unchanged) – BA has continued to tell me this does not count as a cancellation. Preferred flight has now no avios availability but lots of time on my side so remain in a holding pattern (till an actual change happens or avios reappear). Probably happy to pay the £70 change fee given the flight number change is really a technicality

    Rob – Marriott related question

Any idea if Marriott has another promotion lined up when the current one ends on the 18th October? Many thanks.

  • Anna says:

Ryanair seems to have taken a leaf out of BA’s book. They emailed me the other day to say my half term flights to France were cancelled. I filled in the online form for a refund which they said would arrive in 5 – 7 days. Today I’ve had an email saying refunds are taking a really long time and would I like to click on the link below to accept a voucher to be used within the next 12 months! No thanks, Ryanair.

    • Anna says:

And further to this – at the bottom of the email you have to re-apply for your cash refund if you don’t want the voucher!! Has Alex Cruz moved to Ryanair now?!

    • Lady London says:

      cheeky b+**+rds.

Ryanair is supposed to refund your money for a flight they cancelled within 7 days.

I’d be tempted to write back reminding them of this requirement.

      • Anna says:

I’m happy to wait a bit but I definitely want the money back. If they were a bit more generous with their general change policy instead of blatantly ripping people off AND if the voucher was valid for 2 years instead of 1, I might have considered it (though of course there’s no guarantee Ryanair will still be around in 2 years …)

        • Yorkieflyer says:

The refund once requested actually comes through very quickly, I’ve had several and all within a week

    • Sukes says:

RYA emailed me last week with details of the value and expiry next year of my voucher. That was kind of them given I already got the money back in June via Amex chargeback! + needless to say I never requested a voucher in the first place only a cash refund. Obviously I’ve done nothing about last week’s email but the idea of just possibly getting a double up of voucher and cash from RYA of all companies does make me smile. Amex closed the case months ago.
