I admit that you might assume that October and November dates, during a pandemic, should be off-peak anyway. In reality, Marriott Bonvoy tends to have relatively few off-peak dates on offer so this deal does represent increased availability.

These offers are bookable until 15th October.

If you have an existing Marriott Bonvoy redemption for the next couple of months, I recommend checking the current price. You may find that you can rebook.

Let’s look at a few potential half term staycation options.

This hotel is reduced to 20,000 points per night during the rest of October and November. A 3-night half term break from 26th-29th October would cost £463, meaning that a redemption gets you 0.77p per point. This is well above my target of 0.5p.

If you’re more Oxford than Cambridge, we covered the new Courtyard Oxford City Centre when it opened last year. It is actually as low as 8,000 points on some dates in October and November. For our half term dates of 26th-29th October it is 10,000 points per night as an off-peak redemption versus £309 for cash. This is just over 1p per point.

Rhys reviewed the Abbey Hotel in Bath on Friday – the hotel site is here. This is also 20,000 points per night. For the same midweek break, you would pay £393. This gets you 0.65p per point.

(To be fair, I should note that reward pricing in London is not great value, even at off peak rates. This is because London cash prices are, unsurprisingly, very low at the moment.)

If you’re willing to travel, the brand new St Regis in Venice is 70,000 points per night. This may sound a lot, but with cash rates from 26th-29th October totalling €1,983, you’re getting 0.94 Eurocents (0.81p) per point.

Remember that Marriott redemptions offer ‘five for four’

Whilst the pricing above is based on stays of three nights, Marriott Bonvoy lets you book five night stays for the points of four. The cheapest of your five nights is free. This increases your value per point sharply.

Conclusion

Whilst many hotels in business centres are currently selling very cheaply for cash, demand (and prices) are holding up in major tourist centres in the UK.

With ALL Marriott Bonvoy properties globally charging off-peak pricing for reward nights for October and November, you may be able to pick up a deal.
