Amazing hotel deals combining Hyatt’s new points bonus, the 3-4-2 deal and £100 Amex cashback

Hyatt has launched its new Winter promotion, which is another outing for ‘Bonus Journeys’. It is a generous one, especially if you have Hyatt status.
It will double (or triple) up with:
the ‘£100 cashback on £300 Hyatt spend by 31st December’ offer currently showing on many American Express cards (more details here)
the ‘3 for 2 plus $100 credit’ offer at Hyatt’s mid and upper-scale brands which we covered yesterday and is bookable via Hyatt Prive travel agents, such as our partner Emyr Thomas (more details here, expires 31st March)
There are restrictions for both deals.
The list of hotels participating in the Amex cashback deal is here. It covers Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK.
The list of hotels participating in the 3-4-2 deal is here.
What sort of deal am I looking at?
The maths looks AMAZING here if you can combine these offers. Here is an example using Germany, since you can still travel there without quarantine on arrival unless you live in Wales or Northern Ireland:
You book 3 nights at £150 each, total £450, at Park Hyatt Hamburg (picture above) via the Hyatt Prive offer – for example 1st – 4th December where the Standard Rate is €169
Free breakfast, a guaranteed upgrade confirmed at booking and a $100 hotel credit is included via the Hyatt Prive offer
You only pay for 2 nights via the Hyatt Prive offer, so your cash cost is only £300
American Express gives you £100 cashback, so your net cost is £200
You get World of Hyatt points worth 23% of your spending, so £69-worth
Your net cost for a £450 stay is (£300 – £100 – £69) £131 plus you will have had $100 of hotel food and drink credit and free breakfast
For clarity ….. you would have paid under £45 per night for a luxury five-star hotel in Hamburg and got free breakfast and $100 to spend in the hotel.
To be honest, you will struggle to find a Park Hyatt as low as £150 per night. However, the 3-4-2 offer is also valid at Alila, Andaz, Hyatt Centric, Destination Hotels, Grand Hyatt, Unbound Collection, Hyatt Regency, Thompson, Joie De Vivre and Miraval.
How does the new Hyatt points promotion work?
Here are the key dates:
Register by 30th November
Stay between 1st October 2020 and 4 January 2021
(Hyatt still can’t resist stuffing members who forget to register in time but find themselves having a stay in December …..)
This is what you get:
Triple base points on EVERY stay after registration
Your elite nights earned during the promotion will roll over into 2021, so they count towards status in 2020 and 2021
Note that reward nights DO count as ‘stays’.
This time around, there is no ‘from your 2nd stay’ rule. You receive triple points from your first stay after registration.
The link to register is here.
Is this a good deal?
I think so, yes.
I value Hyatt points at around 1.1p. You can get 1.1p if you redeem Hyatt points for ‘in hotel’ credit in large chunks as I explained in this article.
You earn 5 base points per $1 spent. Under this promotion, you will be earning 15 base points per $1. This means you are getting (15 x 1.2p) 18p back for every $1 (78p) you spend. This is a 23% return on your spending!
Elite members will do even better with their status bonus.
You MUST register in advance, which you can do on this page of the World of Hyatt website.
Remember that registration closes on 30th November, but you can stay until 4th January.
