The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 30th September

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/09/30/the-hfp-chat-thread-wednesday-30th-september/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Anyone any good at calculating expected Marriott Bonvoy points from a stay?

As a platinum elite member, I’d booked three rooms for 2 nights, total spend on the final folio was £2958. It was a luxury collection hotel in the UK.

    I’ve been credited 4,982 points listed as ‘988 Base + 494 Elite + 3,500 Extra’.

Surely it should be a minimum of 35000+ points?

I’ll have to submit a missing stay request and provide the folio/get them to look at it.

    • Anna says:

Do you get points on the 2nd & 3rd rooms – some loyalty programs only give them on one room per stay?

      • TGLoyalty says:

Marriott gives points for 3 rooms

They’ll fix it as long as you have the folio for the 3 rooms

      • Rob says:

Marriott lets you earn on 3 rooms – not sure if it needs to be on one folio though. You didnt say how you booked though – would need to be direct to get points.

3,500 looks like some sort of Bonvoy bonus promo. 988 base = $99 = £77 ex VAT so around £81 gross. Looks like they have excluded room spend and just given points on extras.

If the whole lot qualifies (spa, parking etc may not) you’d get £2958 – VAT = £2817 = $3613 so 54,195 inc your status bonus.

        • Alan S says:

Yeah it was direct as usual, through my bonvoy account/whilst logged in.

I’ll share the folio with them and see what they come up with.

        • Pangolin says:

3,500 points => 1,000 as Welcome Gift (Plat guest in LC); 2,500 as per stay bonus in current promo

    • Harry T says:

Yeah, they’ve ballsed it up. You can submit a missing stay form after ten business days or ring them sooner.

    • Alan S says:

For anyone reading back on this, they reacted quickly to the missing stay request and me sharing the folio.

It’s now been amended to the best part of 60,000 points rather than 6,000…!

  • Rob says:

    Amex seems to be cumulative.

No need to rebook – the Marriott promo works on existing bookings. Accor is the only chain which, generally, rejects existing bookings.

  • Ikaz says:

I have had the bonus on two cards based on cumulative spend. I am not sure if pre-booked stays count for the bonus points, but you might want to check the price anyway, a lot of my future stays have dropped in price in the last few weeks anyway so I rebooked them.

  • Mycity says:

Hi, can’t now find it but someone put up a link for an American Insurance Company offering Covid Insurance for visitors. Can anyone direct me please.? Thanks

  • Fred S says:

Is this BREAKING NEWS? BA Book with Confidence booking period extended to 13/10?

    • Andrew says:

Extended by 2 weeks – really pushing the boat out here aren’t they!

      • ChrisC says:

Better than a smack in the face with the Cruz hi viz!

Perhaps waiting for tomorrows announcement on who stays on the naughty list, who moves onto it and if anyone gets moved to the good list

  • YC says:

Amex Mr Porter offer expiring today. If I spend online today, will it trigger?

  • Harry T says:

Promotion ends on October 18th, so you’re not earning promotional bonus points.

  • Andrew says:

And of course you’re still free to cancel at any time despite being given the points.
