Excellent IHG deal at the new Hotel Indigo Bath – 30,000 points for a £500 suite

Hotel Indigo opened in Bath this week. This is bigger news than you might think, since the city is very low on branded options in the city centre.

Here is the hotel website with all the details.

The Hilton Bath Spa, recently rebranded as a DoubleTree, had been the best points option. This is probably the ugliest building in Bath, however, and wasn’t a great hotel when I last visited pre-refurbishment.

Marriott now has an option in Bath. The Abbey Hotel has joined Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio of independent hotels which are part of the Bonvoy ‘system’. The Abbey Hotel website is here. Rhys is reviewing the Abbey Hotel this week so keep an eye out for that in a week or so.

For those who know Bath, the Hotel Indigo is in the Georgian building which used to contain Pratt’s Hotel and the Halcyon Hotel, near the railway station. It is only a few minutes walk from the Abbey and the core shopping area.

There are 166 rooms in five different design styles – including the off-beat stone style in the vaults, pictured below! The restaurant, The Elder, is run by West Country restauranteur Mike Robinson who owns the only Michelin-starred London pub, the Harwood Arms in Fulham.

It is amazing value for IHG Rewards Club points at the moment. Rooms are regularly priced at over £300 for Spring and Summer 2021, or you can pay just 30,000 points!

This could be a mistake – I’m not sure the hotel intends to give away its suites for the next year – so I would lock in a booking now if you are interested.

How many suites does the hotel have? For all the dates I searched throughout the year, weekday and weekend, it was only one suite available for either cash or points! My understanding is that there is more than one suite at the hotel, which makes me think this was intentional just to draw attention? The suites seem to have now completely disappeared – cash or otherwise!

  I find IHG’s IT very flaky. Quite often the website just stops working and I have to leave it a few hours then log in again. It usually sorts itself out after a bit though.
  One thing which does work sometimes if you can’t log in is to try and make a booking, then on the final page it tells you you have selected a member rate and need to log in, you may be able to log in at that point. You don’t need to complete the booking to do this.

    Interesting, thanks. I couldn’t make that work in the app, but when I went to try it on the web site just now, the regular login was working again, so that’s something at least 😉

I’ve just received my free night (up to 40000 points) to be used by end April. Does anyone have any suggestions for decent use of it? I would have used it on the Bath suites but too late for that. I’m not particularly bothered where I go but would like to get decent value.

  Is it the free night from the recent Ambassador renewal offer? This is capped at 40k points as I recall. York and Stratford are good value options for points stays as cash rates tend to be high. Or any Crowne Plaza with a club lounge as this bumps up the value you’ll get. The Kimpton Clocktower in Manchester looks gorgeous (I’m staying there next weekend) and is a steal at 22,500 points on some nights.

I was the first guest to check in at this hotel a few weeks ago – see guest comments logbook in reception which I signed, dated 11 September. The staff couldn’t help mentioning that to me over and over again, they were all lovely, bless them all. I redeemed 30,000 points for a standard room, upgraded to next category deluxe so slightly bigger (IHG Gold member). We ordered in room breakfast, no menus available as the hotel had just opened so the chef popped in at 9pm to take our breakfast order whilst we were having drinks in the bar. One Full English and one Continental came to £35, including delivery charge. Everything is lovely and reminds me of Andaz concept. They have the best quality tea from the East India Company, along with a small bottle of fresh, not UHT, milk and complimentary shortbread biscuits and water in the minibar. Parking is free overnight on the street until 8am, otherwise park in the council car park right opposite the hotel, overnight charges apply. One hour costs £1.60, I paid £6.40 to park from 8am until 12 noon which is when we checked out.
