Another FREE £100 for Amex Platinum cardholders

American Express has launched another £100 giveaway this morning for holders of The Platinum Card.

You will receive £100 statement credit when you spend £100 at a combination of Waitrose, John Lewis, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Deliveroo.

Based on how the offer worked last time, you don’t need to spend the full £100 to get the credit. If you spend £25 in Waitrose tomorrow, you will immediately get a £25 credit. This continues until you hit the £100 cashback cap.

The offer is only available on primary cards, not supplementary cards.

Both online and in-store purchases count.

You have until 22nd December to spend your £100.

You MUST register, it seems

Looking at the American Express website, it seems that you need to save the offer to your Platinum card for it to be valid.

Go to the Amex website here, log in to your Platinum account, find this offer under your ‘Offers’ tab and save it. You’re sorted!

The small print

There are a few exceptions to what you can buy, but nothing major:

Waitrose & Partners exclusions: Cellar, Florist, Garden, Pet, Cookery school, foreign currency, Gift Section
Harvey Nichols exclusions: International delivery, gift cards, vouchers and dining within restaurant
John Lewis & Partners exclusions: Finance and Insurance products, Parking and John Lewis Opticians
Selfridges exclusions: International delivery

The most inconvenient of those is probably the inability to use the credit in the restaurants at Harvey Nichols. However, I assume that 95% of people will redeem the credit at John Lewis / Waitrose or Deliveroo anyway.

You can also get around the Harvey Nichols restriction by buying a gift card elsewhere in the store and then spending it in the restaurants! Gift cards are, in reality, only excluded when ordered online.

  These things take time. I was wondering how much Amex is actually charging the companies involved. What do you reckon? 30%? 50%? Clearly it isn’t 100%.
  
  Having Waitrose in there throws my guess a bit, because supermarkets are low margin and so Waitrose presumably won’t pay so much to ‘buy’ custom. For us, who shop there anyway, they are just throwing money away.

    Waitrose was part of VS’s instore mileage programme until the pandemic, for reasons that are not entirely clear.

  Stacks even better with the original cost of the items making up the initial spend, so with multi buys you can can take a £40 shop down to under £20 very easily with two sets of 3 for £10 on meat and fish, a BOGOF offer, plus a free newspaper. Potentially, 5 vouchers worth of use on this if you have the £8 off a £40 shop variant of the voucher.

    So I guess these vouchers (which I have a few off too :P) will allow themselves to be scanned before the subtotal? So lets take the 3 meat/fish items for £10. Lets say the cost of 9 items (doing the offer 3 times) had a subtotal of £40, I could then scan the voucher bringing it down to 32 and then the discount would apply on the 3 for £10 bringing it down in this case to £22. Did the person at the checkout question why you were trying to use the voucher if the amount was below £40? Just want to prep myself for a haul haha!

      Best thing to do is just buy a JL £100 GC in Waitrose and work your way through those offers..sadly have downgraded to gold couple of months ago, but a great incentive to those still holding a Plat.

        This is exactly how I use money off coupons in Waitrose too. I currently have coupons for £4 off £20 spend. If I buy three packets of £6 albacore tuna steaks and a £2 newspaper, my initial subtotal is £20, which enables me to use the coupon. The ‘3 for £10’ offer takes £8 off the tuna and my ‘MyWaitrose’ card takes off £2 for the free newspaper. The £4 voucher comes off and my final total is £6. If I have a higher spend target, eg £8 off £80, I’ll stock up on non-perishables, like toilet paper and cleaning products (so long as they are on special). Flushable wipes are a good one when they are 2 for £2 as they individually count as £1.75 towards the spend target.

Selfridges has very generous BA e store earning rates when shopping online. And instore a wider range of brands than Harvey Nics, including Louis Vuitton which you can never normally get discounted. A welcomed offer from Amex that has something for everyone and running up to Christmas means it’s useful to keep for Christmas shopping or even the sales which usually start mid-December.

  And the gift cards can be used at the Harvey Nics owned restaurant Oxo Tower. Gift cards bought online work fine too – as it’s Harvey Nics that process them and send them out; Selfridges use a third party to sell gift cards on line, so won’t work, although it will work in store.

    Nothing on my personal Platinum card, which I have held since 2001, been an Amex customer since 1995. Have had previous £100 offer and double points too. Not sure what is going on!

Not showing on my account. In fact none of the previous offers have shown up. I always have to call and speak to 3 people before someone can activate the offer.
