The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 16th September

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/09/16/the-hfp-chat-thread-wednesday-16th-september/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Parking rates for Terminal 5 for a couple of nights are shocking at the moment. Does anyone know of any good offers?

    • Aston100 says:

Would you consider parking on someone’s driveway?
There are a number of sites and apps, such as https://www.parkonmydrive.com/ and https://www.justpark.com/

I think some of the owners even offer an airport pickup / dropoff service too.

I stayed for a night in the Moxy Bath road a year ago and left the car for two weeks, they were not at all bothered, when i returned no problem at all. Always a ton of space as well.

Hounslow West Station car park; £6.50 per day, weekends are free, pay with PayByPhone app which makes it easy to add parking time remotely in case of flight delays.

      • Fred S says:

        Super tip! Cheers

      • Ross says:

Great tip that one. If it is the one I remember though, be careful not to park in the “market area” if you are leaving your car over a weekend.

      • RussellH says:

Parked there for our first ever Airmiles trip, paid for in paper vouchers over the counter at AT Mays in Stirling (saved the fee for Registered post).
No charge to park back then, but perhaps it was just free because it was over New Year. Came back to find that the car parked next door had had its window smashed in, but mine was fine.

I’ve been waiting for a refund for cancelled flights for 2 months now.
When is it reasonable to approach Amex for S75?

  • Andrew says:

In case anyone was wondering, as I think it was asked recently – Avios bookings with partner airlines DO count under booking with confidence. Just rang to change the date of an Avios booking with Cathay with no change fee. Avios availability is still required as the flight hasn’t been cancelled and any change in taxes is due.

Any news on the T3 BA weirdness? Looking at some BA October flights in half term (w/c 26 Oct) to Gibraltar and a box pops up: “Your flights will operate from T3, do you want to continue”. This is both weird (because I thought they’d moved everything to T5) and annoying (because I am a Gold and the Cathy lounge is shut in T3, and no First wing, etc.)

  • Sukes says:

If the rerouting offer is i) 1 connection more, ii) departure is on same day as booking; and iii) total journey time is not excessively longer than original I don’t see anything to suggest KLM are not complying with UK reg’s interpretation of Art8 of EU261. Whether you consider their suggestion reasonable is a different subject. In fact it is likely that KLM is offering precisely this itinerary because it would adhere to EU261 whereas your sister’s request potentially might not. p5-7 of CAA‘s (pre Covid) guidance for airlines on compliance with re/routing is useful, note when regulator talks about being rerouted ‘via the same route’ it means maintaining the origin and destination airports of your booking: https://www.caa.co.uk/uploadedFiles/CAA/Content/Accordion/Standard_Content/Our_work/Annex%201Reouting%20under%20Regulation%20EU261%20and%20the%20CAAs%20view%20on%20compliance.pdf

South Africa is opening international borders from October 2020. I knew it was a load of bollocks when a February 2021 date was thrown out.

  • DJ says:

Finally got matched to Platinum with Marriott. Will the existing “future dated” bookings count as part of challenge?

    Thanks
