Save with generous new Amex cashback deals at Marriott and Hyatt

American Express has launched new cashback deals with Marriott and Hyatt. Assuming that you have them on your cards, you could make a decent saving on your bookings between now and the end of the year.
If targeted, you will find these offers on your online statement page. Remember to look under each card you have, and to save the offer to your card. Do it sooner rather than later, as the offers disappear once the target number of registrations has been hit.

(This is, I am told, one of the frustrating issues for companies offering these deals. In order to cap their exposure, they need to limit the number of registrations. However, it is impossible to know what percentage of people who register will actually make a purchase before the deadline.
The problem is getting worse. Cardholders realise that good offers disappear quickly so they register for decent ones ‘just in case’ even if they are unlikely to take advantage of it. We wrote an article on a good Mr Porter deal recently only to have to pull it when it hit the registration cap.)

What is the Marriott Amex cashback deal?
You will receive £50 cashback when you spend £200 by 31st December.
Despite what I originally wrote, it seems that some people do have this on Marriott Bonvoy American Express cards. My wife had it on her Gold.
The list of participating Marriott hotels is here. It covers Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.
The rules say that it is valid on ‘check-out spend’ only but the rules are not as specific as those for the Hyatt offer below.
Remember that Amex charges a 3% foreign exchange fee which will eat up part of your saving. If you have a card with 0% FX fees, you may want to split the bill and put just enough on your Amex to be certain of hitting £200.
It is not clear if cumulative spend counts. It generally does with hotel promotions.
Don’t forget to register for the latest Marriott promotion
The latest Marriott Bonvoy promotion offers you 2,500 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points per stay. I would value these at £12.50 based on 0.5p per point.
You get a one-off bonus of 5,000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points on your third stay.
The offer runs from 13th August to 18th October. You MUST register via this link before your stay.
Combine with this offer with your American Express cashback and you would have a very attractive deal.
If you are not already a Marriott Bonvoy member you can join here.

What is the Hyatt Amex cashback deal?
You will receive £100 cashback when you spend £300 by 31st December.
The list of participating Hyatt hotels is here. It covers Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK.
Importantly, the terms state that pre-paid online rooms do not count. You need to have £300 of check-out spend to trigger the bonus. This could, of course, be food and drink charges billed during a pre-paid stay.
Remember that Amex charges a 3% foreign exchange fee which will eat up part of your saving outside the UK. If you have a card with 0% FX fees, you may want to split the bill and put just enough on your Amex to be certain of hitting £300.
It is not clear if cumulative spend counts. It generally does with hotel promotions.
The current World of Hyatt promotion ends on 15th September – details here. It isn’t yet clear what, if anything, will replace it.

And if you need a taxi …..
A new cashback offer with high-end London ride app Wheely has appeared on some cards. You will receive £50 cashback when you take three Wheely rides by 7th November.
Wheely is like Uber Exec – you will usually get a high-end Mercedes – but reader feedback is that the service is a lot more polished.
