The HfP chat thread – Friday 4th September

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/09/04/the-hfp-chat-thread-friday-4th-september/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I used the LNER 1st lounge at KGX on Wednesday. Last time there were 100+ people crammed in, on this occasion I took a coffee from the concourse up and I was one of three people there. No refreshments on offer, but clean and comfortable. It’s a basic lounge with WiFi, powerpoints and clean toilets. I think the sign on the external concourse door stating there were no refreshments available is putting people off. More fool them…….

      and closing LGW base.

      • TGLoyalty says:

        Thought they already announced that?

Ofcourse it’s only closed until (hopefully) things pick up again and they need more London slots.

  • Ben says:

Hopefully a straight forward question… to cancel an Avios booking on BA.com, is the charge still “£35 or the lower of taxes and charges”, or just a flat £35? Also a few conflicting articles as to whether it can be done online (BA website implies it can) or over the phone… would be great to hear what people who have cancelled recently have been charged. Thanks!

    • Rob says:

I cancelled one last week and was only charged the £17.50 I had paid.

    • Val says:

I cancelled a flight recently – I phoned – got Avios returned immediately and had to forfeit £1.00 taxes I paid! 😀

  • George K says:

I’ve got the now-closed-to-new-applicants Lloyds Avios MC card, and I read that Lloyds sometimes has its own offers loaded to the card. I’ve never seen this – have I been missing out this whole time? Is there a separate site?

    • mark2 says:

They appear on your online account. Click on ‘Your Accounts’ and then ‘Everyday Offers’.
They have been thin on the ground lately.

      • George K says:

Funny – that’s not there for me. Under Your Accounts it just shows the credit card and nothing else… I may give them a call

    • Genghis says:

You need a current account to see the offers.

  • Rob says:

Won’t clear until November so it potentially wouldn’t pay out anyway.

    • DK says:

We stay for 7 days so I assume if billed on Oct 25th it should clear in time

  • Harry T says:

You could ask them to bill you before the stay, although that might make things interesting if you have to cancel.

  • Martha says:

In the classical American game, is it better to throw a red curve ball or direct is fine?

  • Charlieface says:

Just got this back from T@B re a Hertz c/b claim:

Regrettably we have been informed that this retailer has moved network agency, due to this we are unable to submit your claim for review.

Unfortunately, this does mean that your claim must be considered declined.

Arghhhh. It was an Aus booking which never tracks, but always goes through after a claim. I assume there’s not much I can do.

    • Aston100 says:

I’ve had several purchases fail to track and /or pay in recent times.
Not sure why that site is becoming unreliable.

      • Peter K says:

I’ve actually given up on them and gone to Q now. I had a clear cut purchase via them, including using a code from T$B that it autofilled on the webpage of the site clicked through to…but it failed to track and a claim was rejected.
That was the last of several failures that made me swap allegiance.

      • Lady London says:

usee to be pretty reliable. sad if it’s changed.

        • Lady London says:

My comment is about Hertz. I made the same decision about that platform about 2 years ago. They simply couldnt be bothered when deals fully fulfilled were being welshed on by the merchant – wouldnt even lift a finger.
