Got a free BA Amex? Earn 1,000 bonus Avios over the next seven weeks

If you have a British Airways American Express card, you can earn up to 1,000 bonus Avios over the next few weeks from a new promotion launched today.

You will earn one bonus Avios for every £2 you spend between now and 25th October, up to 1,000 bonus Avios.

This applies to spend on both the free British Airways American Express and the ‘annual fee’ British Airways Premium Plus American Express.

Earn 1,000 bonus Avios over the next 7 weeks

(EDIT: Or perhaps not. It seems that this offer is only for free BA Amex cardholders. The information supplied to me by Amex yesterday was vague. Apologies for any confusion.)

Do I need to register?

Yes.

Head over to the American Express website here, log in and look under the ‘Offers’ tab on your British Airways American Express card.

The offer should be showing there. You need to click ‘Save to Card’.

For clarity, I am told that this offer is available to ALL British Airways American Express cardholders. (EDIT: free card only, it seems)

Can supplementary cardholders register too?

No, it seems not.

Is there any other small print?

It looks like the bonus is awarded on a per transaction basis. This means that a £1.99 purchase earns no bonus and a £3.99 purchase only earns 1 bonus Avios.

Online, instore and foreign spend all counts, as does spending made via mobile payment wallets.

Apart from that, it seems very straightforward and well worth putting £2,000 through your card.

It is a good offer with no ‘gotchas’. It should be a way of persuading some people to dig out their BA Amex card from the desk drawer where it was placed after earning the 2-4-1 voucher for the year.

Too bad it’s not on the BAPP. That said, over the past 12 months I have likely managed to more than recover the annual fee through the 2x Amex ShopSmall promotions plus other discount promotions (Gett, FreeNow/MyTaxi, Waitrose, etc.). That’s before I take into consideration the bonus points offers at Tesco, Waitrose et al.

  • Mark says:

11:59 and still nothing there !,,,,

  • L Allen says:

Ah just seen the update – not on BAPP. Shame. Card goes back in the drawer then.

Nothing doing for me. However given the current landscape I can forsee targeted spend offers returning this autumn. A few years ago there was the 10k bonus for £10k spend (worked out well with new bathroom project) as well as other tailored bonuses. Amex need to keep us spending on these cards in uncertain times…

  • Mark says:

Exactly when today is this being loaded by Amex? I’ve been checking every hour since 08:00 and still nothing

  • AndyC says:

I have tte free card and received the offer at around tte beginning of the week!

  • Gordon says:

Not sure it is even available to all free cards. I have the premium card and my wife has the free one. It’s not showing on either account!

  • Andrew Skinner says:

Not showing on mine (again).. phoned Amex… told this offer does NOT exist and that the blog from whence it came is possibly not accurate and has incorrect information!
Am being told that the only offer available generally is for spend at M&S, Waitrose and only until Sept 12th.
    I despair!…
