Got a free BA Amex? Earn 1,000 bonus Avios over the next seven weeks

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

If you have a British Airways American Express card, you can earn up to 1,000 bonus Avios over the next few weeks from a new promotion launched today.

You will earn one bonus Avios for every £2 you spend between now and 25th October, up to 1,000 bonus Avios.

This applies to spend on both the free British Airways American Express and the ‘annual fee’ British Airways Premium Plus American Express.

Earn 1,000 bonus Avios over the next 7 weeks

(EDIT: Or perhaps not. It seems that this offer is only for free BA Amex cardholders. The information supplied to me by Amex yesterday was vague. Apologies for any confusion.)

Do I need to register?

Yes.

Head over to the American Express website here, log in and look under the ‘Offers’ tab on your British Airways American Express card.

The offer should be showing there. You need to click ‘Save to Card’.

For clarity, I am told that this offer is available to ALL British Airways American Express cardholders. (EDIT: free card only, it seems)

Can supplementary cardholders register too?

No, it seems not.

Is there any other small print?

It looks like the bonus is awarded on a per transaction basis. This means that a £1.99 purchase earns no bonus and a £3.99 purchase only earns 1 bonus Avios.

Online, instore and foreign spend all counts, as does spending made via mobile payment wallets.

Apart from that, it seems very straightforward and well worth putting £2,000 through your card.

It is a good offer with no ‘gotchas’. It should be a way of persuading some people to dig out their BA Amex card from the desk drawer where it was placed after earning the 2-4-1 voucher for the year.

I saved this yesterday on main account but not on sups.
But when I looked on second card in my name, a banner came up saying that if I achieved Companion voucher by 30th Sep it would be extended by six months.

  • WaynedP says:

Just dropped off OH’s car at garage for its first major paid service since purchase. Am expecting it to be a chunky payment.

Knowing my luck, this offer will appear on BAPP Amex as soon as I’ve made the garage payment and missed the opportunity 😉

Will give you all fair warning once I do, so you know when to re-check your Offers list, ha ha

  • Sharon says:

Not there at 08:40 – mind you I am in a massive dispute with AMEX right now over some cancelled American Airlines tickets due to Covid so they’ve probably blacklisted me!

  • Paul Smith says:

Partner has it on their free card but nothing on my BAPP. I never got the Tesco/M&S promo either and when I spoke to Amex they said I wasn’t eligible as I already shopped there heavily.

    • A James says:

That is weird. I shop at Tesco, M&S and Waitrose all the time and got the extra two points per pound offer.

  • Vikki Schofield says:

So after you’ve earned your 2-4-1 voucher, which card do you go on to use? I am trying to decide if hitch new card to get as have earned 2-4-1 on both mine and husbands cards and still have 4.5 months to go…

  • MKW says:

Saved to my card 4 days ago, so not launched today and no mention of the offer starting today. No sign of it on any supp cards ☹️

    • Rob says:

Just tellin’ y’all what Amex told me.

I would blame their PR machine but I’d probably lose my Wimbledon and British Film Festival premiere tickets 🙂

  • Adam says:

Without jumping on the bandwagon, nothing for me or my sup cards.

  • Andrew says:

Seems strange to be giving an offer on the free card and not on the paid card. Let’s hope there’s also a return of something decent for Platinum card members – seems like the Gold card is getting a better deal at the moment with the higher rate of selling MR for a statement credit.

    • RussellH says:

Was this offer on the paid card before Christmas, when the same offer was on the free card?
[I do not know, nothing would make me pay £190 annual fee.]
