The HfP chat thread – Thursday 27th August

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/08/27/the-hfp-chat-thread-thursday-27th-august/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

The tray of BA centenary gin just arrived – I’ll do the civilised thing and wait until after midday before sampling!

Dreading the call to BA to sort out my cancelled flights on a 241 INV-LHR-LA for November. What is my advised options before I call?

  • pin perl says:

    Hi,
an airline cancelled my tickets booked for September through American express travel online,
the airline only wants to give me a voucher or maybe refund once they resume flights: estimated in October and from then can take 12 weeks.
How can I get amex to refund me immediately?
    Would appreciate any help.
    thanx

    • Anna says:

I would think you’re pretty much bound by Amex Travel’s Ts & Cs here. Chargeback wouldn’t be immediate and I’ve seen people on here say Amex in any case just refers you back to the Travel department. Depending on the airline/destination you may be covered by EU261.

      • pin perl says:

        Hi Anna,
the ticket is from TLV to LHR,
how do I claim with EU261?
        Thanks

        • AJA says:

@ PIN PERL Which airline issued the ticket? You can only claim on EU261 if it is an EU airline. Any other airline flying into the EU/UK you will have to rely on that country’s consumer protections.

VIRGIN UPPER CLASS SEATS FOR KIDS
What would you say would be the best seats for 2 adults and a 2 year old in UC on an A330-300?

Anyone have experience with the metal card from Crypto?

    • Waddle says:

I have it. I’m on ruby tier although the benefits really start coming from the next tier. Crypto.com does not charge a fee to top up the card but top ups are generally treated as cash advances so your issuer will charge interest and fees from the point of top up. Have tested with Virgin. Non-card features are pretty decent as well. I earn 12% interest on my flexible holding of CRO. Higher interest rates available with fixed terms and bonus rates for the higher card tiers.

    Virgin to fly to Pakistan

  • Henry says:

Hi HfPers… We have flights booked with Virgin to Shanghai on the 27th of October but at the moment China and Shanghai are not letting any none residents in even with tests etc.
Will Virgin automatically cancel the flight or will I have to call them and rearrange etc?

    Thank you

  • marcw says:
