British Airways has made its another announcement about On Business, its loyalty scheme for SMEs.

(If you have your own business and you’re not an On Business member, you can read our full review here. It is a no-brainer, since you earn On Business points on top of your usual Avios.)

The last status and points extension was announced in August 2020. There has now been another announcement although not all members – certainly not HfP – have received it.

British Airways On Business

This is what has been announced now:

  • your status will roll over for 2022, irrespective of how much spending you do in 2021 – this represents a second rollover, since 2020 status was extended into 2021
  • there is no mention of reduced tier thresholds, so it looks as if anyone wanting to move up a tier will now need to spend the full amount in 2021 – £30,000 to reach Tier On2 and £300,000 to reach Tier On3
  • no points will expire on 31st December 2021 – expiry has been pushed back to 31st December 2022again, this represents a second rollover

The latter one is important, because On Business points have a ‘hard’ expiry date. Irrespective of your activity or status, points usually expire after three years if not used.

You find out more on this page of the BA website.

If you are an On Business member, remember that you can now earn additional On Business points via the new British Airways Accelerating Business American Express credit card. You can learn more in our BA Accelerating Business review here.

Now to speculate on whether BAEC status will be extended for those who were missed off in the last round of extensions 🙂 Getting Gold back by January (for me) when travel options remain uncertain and limited is going to be a challenge!

  • Matarredonda says:

Slightly off topic but relevant Ryanair have extended all travel vouchers issued instead of instant cash refund until Feb 2022.
Cash refunds can still be obtained even if a voucher originally accepted

  • Flashback says:

This wording doesn’t mention anything about points that have an expiry date of 30/6/2021 though, which were an extension from 31/12/2020.

However, in the e-mail I received from BA OB it says (sic):
    Your On Business Points
We want to make sure that you still have the opportunity to spend your On Business Points on redemption flights or cabin upgrades, so we’re extending the expiry date of any On Business Points due to expire in 2021. These will now expire on 31 December 2022.

All of the changes outlined above will happen automatically, so you won’t need to do anything.

I would read that to be any points due to expire in 2021, so should catch the June ones?
