The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 26th August

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/08/26/the-hfp-chat-thread-wednesday-26th-august/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Has anyone gotten a refund from Lastminute? I booked a refundable hotel reservation which has been cancelled since March. Lastminute confirmed the cancellation email and they requested if I want the refund as a voucher or cash, I chose cash. However, they have refused to pay since March. I have used Curve to raise a Chargeback ( I pay the reservation via Curve) but I don’t think they are taking Curve seriously, they have rejected the Chargeback claim.

I booked (April 2020) QR flights using LM giftcards. Flight cancelled late March, QR confirmed refund proceed in late April. Nothing from them except generic email asking to wait. Email them to let them know that I would take s75 route mid June. Got the giftcards back with extension for 12 months in early July. Absolute nightmare!

      • Lady London says:

Erm…do you think it might turn out use of s75 could have got you the better outcome?

Hello, I also have a similar situation.
Air India flight booked via lastminute.com which was cancelled in April.
I opted for a cash refund over vouchers.
I have raised a case with my Marks & Spenser credit card and not had anything back from them yet :S

          • Lady London says:

defo use section 75 claim on your credit card for anything involving Lastminute. Sorry to say, but there are so many reports just on here, that no one’s receiving any cash refunds. They’ve already been bust once.

For sure there will be a thread over on Flyertalk with recent experiences of others – as there is for Travelup for which similar diffuculties were beibg reported.

        • Vit says:

I am not sure to be honest with you. s75 still open at the moment but I’ve never not heard from AMEX since then. I am planning to use these voucher to book new flights soon anyway.

Question on IB Plus please (no I am not planning to use my avios to purchase the 50% off promotion). I have now set up my IB Plus for almost 3 months and want to make sure that in the future if I have to transfer avios across from BAEC to IB Plus or vice versa, I would be able to do that with no problem.

So in order to achieve that and as I understand, I have:

    1. Set up my IB Plus for at least 3 months before starting any activities — this is more or less done now.
    2. My IB Plus has to have at least one avios in or out activity before I can do any transfer / combine avios activity — to do this, I plan to transfer 1000MR point (as I think that is the minimum) to IB Plus within the first 3 months.
    3. Am I correct to think, once 1 and 2 is done, I have to transfer another batch of 1000MR to IB Plus before able to pull through all my avios back in to BAEC and vice versa?

Sorry I am quite new with the IB Plus. I just want to make sure that my IB Plus account is ready for transfer in / out once needed.

    Cheers,
    Vit

    • Rob says:

You only need to do 1 transfer of 1,000 points. It doesn’t need to be in the first 3 months, but you cannot transfer in from BA until a) you have done the transfer and b) the account is 90 days old.

      • Vit says:

Thanks Rob. So basically, just leave 1000 points in IB plus will do the trick! Can I pull this 1000 back from IB plus to BAEC later after 3 months if absolute needed?

Can the Hilton 3rd Night Free promotion be stacked with double nights and double points?
