If you have $1,500 to spare and want to support coronavirus relief efforts, Leading Hotels of the World has teamed up with some of its hotels to offer unique ‘Stay It Forward’ packages.

Each $1,500 package gets you:

2 nights at the hotel in question in a standard room

a unique experience during your trip

a one year membership of LHW’s Leaders Club (worth $175)

1,500 Leaders Club points (worth $120 off a future booking)

Funds will support either hotel staff who have been left unemployed or local charities.

Here are some which looked particularly interesting:

A Stay It Forward Certificate at The Ritz London includes an exclusive tour of The Ritz Kitchen followed by a four-course meal in Michelin starred The Ritz Restaurant.

In Madrid, you’ll go backstage at the Opera House for a private tour, and follow it up with a dining experience at Palacio De Los Duques’s Montmartre 1889 Restaurant offering a mix of French and Spanish haute cuisines.

On the Greek island of Zakynthos, guests of Lesante Blu Exclusive Beach Resort will embark on a five-hour private island tour from the comfort of a Range Rover limousine.

At The Fontenay Hamburg, you’ll take a boat tour at the beautiful Alster Lake complete with a delicious picnic, and receive three course dinner for two guests including a bottle of wine at the hotel’s Parkview Restaurant.

There are plenty of other opportunities, and not just in Europe. LHW guarantees that the certificates will be valid until at least June 2022, and some properties may choose to offer an even longer window.

The duck parade is not at Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans, but the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee which I believe you also have a review of in this series.

Re: IHG, is there any indication as to when the Mr & Mrs Smith Hotels can be booked with IHG points? That would then influence if I buy extra points. The initial plan was for ‘early 2020’ which has passed but clearly a lot has changed since then!

  Don’t buy points if you’re holding out for Mr&Mrs Smith points redemptions. Buy points only if you have an immediate need for them.

Has anyone else noticed that IHG Rewards Catalogue, where you can redeem points for gifts, has been reduced significantly?

You used to be able to redeem for iPads, laptops and other high value items, this has been reduced to items under 20,000 points, which barely covers a charging cable let alone a new iPad!

Is IHG worried about loosing money out the back door with these rewards? I guess with people traveling less, there has been a higher than normal demand on these items? Or worse, there is a sharp devaluation coming soon.

  The catalogue was poor value, apart from IHG gift cards, so I doubt they could devalue to a position where it was good value!
  
  What I imagine is that people who don’t see themselves doing any hotel stays for a while are cashing out for stuff that costs IHG real money.
