The new HFP chat thread – Tuesday 11th August

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/08/11/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-tuesday-11th-august/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HFP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Hi, another question on BA FTV. I’m sure this has been asked but I am unable to find it in any of the comment thread or articles.
Would anyone know how long it takes to get FTV for a booking nowadays? I have a CW reward flight booked for LHR-DEL that I need to change to LHR-BOM for 30th August. My understanding is FTV would allow me to recover seat selection fee, etc but if it doesn’t process on time I would rather try calling and changing the sector since it uses the same amount of avios. Also, any other suggestions?

EasyJet have cancelled my flight and re booked me on to another service 4 hours earlier.

I spoke to them and they said as was within 5 hours only option was a voucher.

Should I call again? Or is this a easyJet policy? And is it allowed? They cancelled the original flight, did not re time it.

    • Anna says:

It may come down to the Ts and Cs of your original booking, different airlines have different policies on time changes.

      • Anna says:

Though if it’s a different flight number then it’s a cancellation under EU261 and you are entitled to a refund if that’s what you prefer.

      • memesweeper says:

If they’ve *cancelled* the flight, rather than retimed it, you should be entitled to demand a refund regardless of T&Cs. Be prepared for a fight.

    • Lady London says:

Ir’s a new flight number which you will see if you check your original flight confirmation from when you booked.

They’ve literally just overwritten your old flight details online with a different flight number in Manage Booking. Doubtless their copy shows your original flight was cancelled and they changed you booking to a different flight. Without showing to you in any way, that they’ve done that. WhuchI think is borderline illegal.

You will notice there are no flight numbers on the email they sent you. They’re claiming it’s a time change. As soon as they change the flight number it proves it’s a cancellation.

All your EU261 flight cancellation rights apply and that includes rerouting / later date of your choice.

Call them early in their day or 12-2 and tell them what you want. It’s your choice not theirs.

I am not sure if by trying to claim a cancellation is a time change, and also for not informing you of your rights, Easyjet should be reported to the CAA.

      • Lady London says:

So just to be clear EU supersedes any airline’s terms and conditions. As well as rerouting you also have the right to request a refund. Vouchers they have a slight incentive for but most people here would refuse one (which is your right given their cancellation) and take cash if they did not want a reroute.

I just binned my Elite sub to RFF. Twice in the last two weeks I had to make swift destination changes due to FCO Advisories changing and I needed a new holiday fast. I spent over an hour each time When checking where else my miles could go. The RFF feed was patently wrong on each search I made.Ok there is a problem with the feed. But RFF didn’t tell me that. If it was free so be it. However call it Elite and start taking £3 from me each month you have to up the game- at least putting a tag on the site when there’s an issue. I value my time too.
    Therefore regretfully I’m out.

    • Anna says:

I think I’ll be doing that as well. I’ve mentioned a few times that I’ve been contacting RFF and each time getting a response that they’re “looking into it” but no offer to that month’s subscription!
