The new HFP chat thread – Thursday 23rd July

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/07/23/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-thursday-23rd-july/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HFP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Hi, does anyone know how long the amex gold 10k bonus points you get for spending £15k are taking to post. I know t&cs say up to 2 months after renewal, but wondering if anyone has any recent experience?

      Accor credit Q:
If you use Accor points as part payment off a stay, do you get base award points on the entire cash rate or just the cash element after using credit?

    • Secret Squirrel says:

Usually 3-4 weeks after annual statement fees apply.

    • Rob says:

30 days for my wife for the last 2 years.

  • GRIMZ says:

Hi Folks, I have a few refunds to go back onto some of my cancelled Amex cards and I don’t have the details now. Can I trust that these will eventually find there way back to me?
    Thanks in advance

    • Rhys says:

      Yes, should be fine.

You will suddenly get a statement although the account is closed.
Recently I paid via FastPay into the wrong (closed) account and only found out when a statement arrived showing a credit balance which I asked to have transferred to my current account.

Been looking at using my Free Marriott Night for next Year valid for hotels up to 25,000 points .
So effectively is another downgrade as it use to be Cat 4 but now its only Cat 4 off peak I think this is such a poor Reward for Spending 25K on the Amex Marriott Credit in one year.

    • Freddy says:

Yep they’ve completely wrecked the card with reduced earning rate and rubbish reward with a relatively high fee. Think there was a mass exodus a while ago (including me)

  • Benilyn says:

    So is curve refund working?

  • Oliver says:

I am due to fly on BA460/461 next month (the 777 that flies to/from Madrid).

Just been notified (via an ExpertFlyer seat alert) that it has been substituted for an A319. Looks like you only get a 777 on Saturdays throughout August. It then seems to be switching to a (daily) 787-8 from September.

Worth checking if you are due to be on those flights, and you mind about these things!

  • Fred (Your comment is awaiting moderation) says:

My October flight to west coast US is still showing as a 747

BA sure are slow at updating !

    • Rhys says:

I imagine it will depend on what the route network looks like as to what you’ll end up flying on (if you do fly….)

  • Sukes says:

To replace a significant portion of Flybe’s Belfast ops, Stobart Air operating on behalf of Aer Lingus will start operating six routes from Belfast City (BHD): EDI, MAN, BHX, EMA, EXT, LBA. Will begin on a phased basis from Aug; 5x ATR72-600 will be based at the airport.

  • Miko says:

    Hi,

Am I correct that during August BA will not be flying to Tokyo (excluding code share)? BA seems to have recently cancelled then all.
Outbound was OK but I was scheduled to fly back to London in the middle of August having used Avios and a Lloyd’s upgrade voucher.
    Thanks For advice.
