The new HFP chat thread – Friday 17th July

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions. It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind. At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article. This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.   Amex Retention dept would only offer me 5000 for keeping the PRG with £1K spend in 3 months (wouldn’t budge when I pushed for something better and HUCA didn’t improve the offer).
  
  Easy refusal, so now I just have the ARCC and the Bonvoy card.

I was caught short in Edinburgh a few years ago, and used the facilities in the George, very nice, there was also a wine tasting event going on. which was also quite nice.

Just found out today Ikos Dassia won’t open at all this season (same for Ikos Kos) had booked our family holiday last year for September with BA. Will now need to find replacement. Did Domes of Elounda last year.

Quick question to everyone: do you know if the Melia 50% bonus when you buy points is still active / has been extended? The main page says until July 12 but when you read the T&C’s it says until July 31. Do you get the bonus points after having completed the purchase, i.e. does the page to buy points shows the normal pricing without the bonus but you get the bonus points afterwards? Thanks

Tried to top up R with curve but it shown as pending initial and now as declined. Is that a limit we are allowed by Curve to top up R or because I’m just new to use such facility?

  R top up is limited to £700 a week if you’re lucky. Expect a grumpy email from them sometime

    £700 weekly but £300 in one go and £500 every 3/4 days.
    
    Usually do it 300 day 1, 200 day 3, 200 day 5 rinse and repeat.

£5k refund onto BAPP card (cancelled holiday) and now my counter for the year is £15k (!) Would seem fair except put through almost 20k last year.

Bigger problem though is -8k avios. Can anyone confirm if this gets wiped if I cancel and reapply later? Or might Amex be offering any retention bonuses on the BAPP if I phone to leave?
