Book now for IHG and Best Western ‘3 for 2’ hotel deals

If you are considering a UK or European trip during this year, IHG has launched ‘Get A Night On Us’ at its UK and European hotels. These include InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Hotel Indigo and Holiday Inn Express. You can find out more here.

At participating properties, your rate will be adjusted if you stay 3+ nights to save you the equivalent of at least one night.

Here are the rules:

You must book by 10th September 2020

You must stay by 31st March 2021

Minimum of three days advance booking required

Non-refundable deposit is required for the first night

You can amend your stay dates up to 48 hours before arrival

The discount will be 34% off Best Available Rate. Because there is a non-refundable one night deposit on these rates, it is not strictly comparable but you should still come out on top.

Best Western has also launched a 3-4-2 deal for the UK

If the IHG 3-4-2 deal doesn’t appeal, take a look at Best Western.

The stay dates are the same as the IHG deal – you can stay until 31st March 2021 – BUT the booking window is lot tighter. You need to book by 31st July for a stay at a UK hotel.

You need to be a member of Best Western Rewards (join here) to book these rates. You will want to do this, however, as it allows you to earn miles too. Remember that Best Western is both an Avios and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club partner earning 500 miles per stay in either scheme.

Best Western has a generous status match policy. If you have status with any other hotel chain, it will be matched. The form you need to send them can be found on the Best Western website here (PDF).

IHG – is this totally non-refundable? I’m thinking if there is a second wave or other reason travel restrictions return. I’m not sure I’m confident to book a holiday anywhere any time in the future just yet…

  The IHG deposit (one day) is non-refundable. Given local lockdowns and other uncertainties I don’t think that’s good enough to attract me.

  YMMV, but IIRC Anna was able to book the IC in Vienna for Feb 2021 with this deal but on a totally refundable basis.

    That’s correct – it’s still available and seems to be unique to the IC Vienna. They’ve given us a 2 cat upgrade to the largest suite as well (we booked the smallest suite to ensure club access), so all in all a bargain at 670 euros for 3 nights.

Shame IHG haven’t got a similar 3-for-2 promotion on points bookings, given quite a few of us have quite a few points built up following the 100% bonus recently!

  If you’ve got time to do a bit of digging there are still some CPs and Indigos available for less than the usual number of points. Cash rates are also low though.

The UK IHG properties that I was looking at had points rates which were only slightly worse than the cash price from the ‘night on us’ scheme.
i.e. 12,500 points for a Crowne Plaza, versus just under £50pn The points rate being fully refundable up to the day before.
I noticed similar points versus cash prices at a number of other IHG properties across Yorkshire this summer.

I’ve opted to use points. I don’t want any risks associated with the non-refundable deposit. It only costs the equivalent of about an extra £5pn to use points in my staycation schedule.

  At present I’m sticking to fully refundable rates with the closest cancellation to arrival rate as possible but these rates will work for some though you do need to contact the hotel if you want / need to change your dates

Anyone else finding that the IHG website is broken?

For weeks it’s been really buggy with cookies and login loops.

Today, the sign in link does nothing.

Web and mobile browsers. The sign in link is just a broken Javascript call.

Second question – Anyone have a link to ts&cs for the IHG credit card free night to confirm that the expiry date is “book by” not “stay by”?

  Enough readers have the IHG card (and I had one myself for years) – that’s how the voucher works. The only risk is that, if you need to cancel a stay after the expiry date is passed, the voucher does not come back as it has then expired.

I had a 2 night stay at the excellent QO Amsterdam booked for October on a non-refundable partner rate and with a bit of effort managed to convince the hotel to change it to 3 nights on the 34% off deal, so we paid an extra 27€ for an extra night in one of their 270€ suites – not bad seeing as the same amount of money wouldn’t scrape a night in a Premier Inn in the UK!
