The new HFP chat thread – Saturday 20th June

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions. It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind. At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article. This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article. Also I’ve got two BA 2 for 1s to burn. which I’ll probably use to Singapore or KLnext year.

Anyone got any tips or workarounds that I can benefit from?

United Airlines have pulled out of Manchester Apparently. Looks like Virgins rubbing its hands for the MAN-NYC market. If American couldn’t do it and United couldn’t do it. What does that say about the market?

Have you actually priced up decent hotels in Spain in Summer? You’re looking at £500 per night for a 5-star in Mallorca (£650 for the Park Hyatt as per our other article today).

  The Park Hyatt is getting some competition with a MO and Four Seasons in the making.
  
  Honestly, they are very nice luxury hotels which are not at that ridiculous price levels.

I have just upgraded my Amex (Green) Card to Platinum. If I now use the Green Amex, will the spend count towards the £4000 target? It says the upgrade is being processed. Do I need to wait for the approval and card to arrive? Also, will the £60 I paid a few months ago for the card fee be deducted from the £575 fee?

  If your online acct has turned to platinum, you can spend on your Green card and that counts towards any spend for upgrade bonus.
  
  Your £60 will be refunded prorata.

  Once approved your green spend will count. No need to wait for the card. Not sure about the green fee, I don’t remember getting a refund when I upgraded.

Hey folks – any idea what’s happening with the BA A350s? They don’t seem to make an appearance on any route at the moment, and was wondering if anyone knew when they would realistically return.
