The new HFP chat thread – Thursday 18th June

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/06/18/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-thursday-18th-june/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working.  Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

Just received a survey from BA, the backend was run by KPMG
Quite alot about the current situation, how it was handled by BA, feelings towards the airline, the executive club and benefits
I was honest and barely able to score them a positive at all

    • Anna says:

Let’s hope they don’t use the feedback to justify more “enhancements”.

    • Lady London says:

I hope you gave them hell on BA having illegally altered its website to prevent people claiming hundreds of thousands of refunds passengers had paid BA for flights BA did not operate.

Someone’s got to, otherwise what do we have regulators (our supine CAA, apparently) that so far has made no indication they intend to prosecute BA for this blatant and deliberate action taken in order to prevent passengers from being able to even request the refunds they were (and are still in hundreds of thousands of cases) owed by BA.

  • Chris L says:

Looks like BA is beginning to make the switch over to Berlin Brandenburg as my flights for later in the year to Tegel have just been cancelled and rebooked. Let’s see if it sticks this time!

    • Peter says:

Chris, when was you flight to TXL? Ours (reward fight) is end of Sept and nothing showing yet.
It will need to be cancelled anyway, the event was cancelled) was hoping there was a way to do it and not incur the cancellation fee? I know its the same city, but maybe BA would give the option?

      • Charlieface says:

Airport move should legally get you free cancellation

        • J says:

It’s not really an airport change though – you booked a flight to Berlin and if Tegel closes, Brandenburg is simply the successor airport to Tegel, for the same destination. It seems as though *this* time Brandenburg might actually open but who knows? I still think closing Tegel is a huge mistake though.

      • Chris L says:

Our flights were December. I think it’s end of October / Early November Tegel is due to close and Brandenburg opens. But then they said something similar in 2011. We shall see!

  • Anna says:

Flyertalk reporting that the US DOT has had thousands of complaints about airlines not refunding pax for cancelled flights (like mine!). Worst offender is UA, as per a previous post today!

  • r* says:

Id booked a flight for someone via opodo on air india, departing and arriving back in london. The flight was then cancelled a few weeks ago, air india was uncontactable and opodo werent showing any sign of actually issuing a refund so I did an amex chargeback.

The current status of the flight refund is that opodo requested it from air india 10 weeks ago and thats it, amex say that opodo have provided them with the info that they need and so will probably side with them.

What are my options if amex wont issue the chargeback and opodo have issued a request for refund from the airline that has gone into a blackhole?

    • Rhys says:

Not sure you have much room for manoeuvre there apart from chasing Opodo. You could try reaching out to Air India directly. The next step would be to take this to mediation/money claim online.

      • Anna says:

CEDR were brilliant when BA was refusing me delay compensation last year. I don’t know whether it would be more difficult chasing an airline which isn’t EU-based though.

    • Vit says:

Chargeback is tricky when opodo may fight back and you have not got any confirmation from Air India that they have refunded (fully or not) the money to the travel agency. I know it is difficult but if you can, try to get that written confirmation from the airline and build up your strong case.

  • James says:

Does anyone know how many points you receive when referring someone from an Amex Platinum Business card? There is nothing on their website on this..

    • Rob says:

      18k.

For some reason they post very erratically so keep screenshots of the application etc.

  • FloriGuy says:

Did anyone see the news about Wirecard missing almost 2 Billion in cash?

Did Curve not used to use wirecard?

    • Rob says:

      Easy come, easy go 🙂

Many fintechs use Wirecard for their cards as they are the easiest issuer to deal with.

      • Tom says:

Might be down to the lack of robust controls…. 🙂

But agree, lots of other Fintechs use them and trade of Wirecard’s FCA registration.

  • Spursdebs says:

Don’t know if this is off interest to anyone looking for travel insurance.

It’s being reported that NZ’s army has taken over responsibility for enforcing quarantine after 2 travellers from the UK tested positive for COVID-19 after being allowed out to visit family while their infection status was unknown. Here you might get a phone call from a Border Force official, which you’re not even obliged to answer.
