Get extra benefits on Kimpton and Hotel Indigo hotel stays with IHG Lifestyle Collection

You can get additional benefits at selected Hotel Indigo and US Kimpton hotels when you book via the new IHG Lifestyle Collection programme.

Two weeks ago we looked at IHG Luxury Collection, a new collection of benefits available when you book InterContinental, Regent or non-US Kimpton hotels.

With IHG Luxury Collection, you don’t pay any more than the standard room only Best Available Rate showing online but will get extra goodies:

  • GUARANTEED 2pm late check-out
  • Breakfast for two in the hotel restaurant
  • $100 of hotel credit per stay
  • One category upgrade, subject to availability on arrival
  • Bottled water and fresh fruit or snacks in the room on arrival

….. as well as your usual points.  Our article explaining how the IHG Luxury Collection works is here.

Today, I want to focus on the second new product launched by IHG – IHG Lifestyle Collection.

As with IHG Luxury Collection, these packages can ONLY be booked via appointed ‘IHG Preferred Partner’ travel agents. Emyr Thomas, who we partner with, is one of them.  You can find out about Emyr’s services on this page of Head for Points and he’d be happy to help you out with any bookings.

What is IHG Lifestyle Collection?

What is IHG Lifestyle Collection?

The IHG Luxury Collection is a set of additional benefits available to you if you are staying at a participating US Kimpton or Hotel Indigo.

Kimpton hotels outside of the United States are NOT part of the Lifestyle Collection but MAY be part of the (better) IHG Luxury Collection.  IHG Luxury Collection includes Kimpton hotels in Glasgow, Edinburgh (Kimpton Charlotte Square review), Manchester (Kimpton Clocktower review) and London (Kimpton Fitzroy review here), as well as Kimpton De Witt in Amsterdam which we reviewed here.

For total clarity, the rate you pay is the same as the Best Available Rate on ihg.com.  All of these benefits are genuinely free on top.

What are the IHG Lifestyle Collection benefits?

Here are the main benefits you get when you book IHG Lifestyle Collection rates:

  • 2pm late check-out, if available
  • $50 of hotel credit per stay
  • One category upgrade, subject to availability on arrival
  • Bottled water and fresh fruit or snacks in the room on arrival

This is a lot weaker than the benefits available via IHG Luxury Collection:

  • you don’t get free breakfast
  • your late check-out is NOT guaranteed
  • the hotel credit is only $50 and not $100

That said, Hotel Indigo properties are far cheaper than InterContinental hotels and European Kimpton hotels tend to be pricier than those in the US.

The full benefits list is here (click to expand):

Which hotels participate in the IHG Lifestyle Collection?

Here is the full list – click to expand:

IHG Lifestyle Collection participating hotels

As you will see, not all Hotel Indigo properties are on the list.  In the UK, you have Manchester Victoria Station and London Kensington (but not Paddington).  The Paris Opera and Venice hotels are also worth noting.

Conclusion

The new IHG Lifestyle Collection offers some useful benefits if you are staying at a participating Hotel Indigo or US Kimpton property.

If you would otherwise book a cheaper non-refundable rate, you are paying slightly extra here because you need to book Best Available Rate.  You need to do the maths to see if the $50 hotel credit, which is the only guaranteed benefit of value, swings it for you.

For anyone who would usually book a cancellable rate anyway, these are genuine free extras.

You CANNOT book these rates online.  If you don’t know any other luxury travel consultants, you can contact Emyr Thomas via the form on this page of Head for Points with your dates.  He will confirm the rate and benefits and will then book once you’ve given final approval.  You pay at the hotel as usual.

    Thanks Rob.

I’ve seen elsewhere (in a Facebook ad for a luxury travel service and on the flyer talk IHG board that there is only a one night stay requirement to get these benefits. Is that your understanding too?

If so then $50/£40 is a great benefit for one night (especially for solo travellers) and perhaps for 2 but not for 3 or more nights.

I have a couple of Indigo Manchester bookings for later in the year. I need to check to see if swapping to the BAR is better value than the buy now pay later refundable rate they were offering when I booked.

Good morning. With this and the luxury collection. I currently have a Europe Kimpton booking for two nights. The first is a cash refundable rate and the second is a reward night. Is it possible to use Emyr say for the first night and still keep the reward night for the second? And get the benefits. Thanks

I’ve mixed cash and rewards before. I always email ahead of time to ensure the hotel staff are aware the bookings are linked. It would be unusual for the hotel to make you move (downgrade) the room but it’s not impossible. Late check-out would be a bonus, but that’s based on availability anyway so no harm in asking. I have done this at IHG and Hilton chains and have some status. Will do it again most likely over Xmas for my partner’s birthday — the night of the birthday is the fancy suite for cash, hope it carries over for the other nights on points. If the hotel is very busy it won’t happen, but hey, it’s well worth the gamble.
