The new HFP chat thread – Monday 15th June

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/06/15/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-monday-15th-june/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working.  Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

I just went online to use amex live chat and it appears to be unavailable. Has it been down lately or is more lijely just busy or an issue with my device (abdroid) settings?

  • Ali M says:

    The mind wonders…
correct me if I am wrong…
Shouldnt amex be relaxing rules for the 24 month sign up bonus if they are struggling to keep peeps?
Also Barclaycard avios / new hilton credit card – all scrapped?

    • memesweeper says:

      1. I wouldn’t have thought so, those anti-churn rules are designed to *keep* people
      2. I’m sure there will be news eventually if/when things return to normal

      • Ali M says:

        Oh okie…
I felt bad asking given a lot of things in free fall and didn’t want to sound too opportunistic.
The churners will have timers set for when 24 months are up 😛

  • pin perl says:

    Hi,
I’ve got a platinum amex and a supplementary card as well,
does anyone know if I make a GOLD supplementary will I receive 5000 bonus points if I’ve received a bonus already for the platinum sup?

  • Andrew says:

They cancelled my September flight to Rome last week.

  • mutley says:

Given that half of the world is closed to UK nationals, I was wondering what British seaside resort the HFP readers would recommend, I have stayed in both the Hilton and Hampton in Bournemouth on Robs recommendation. Answers on a saucy postcard please.

    • memesweeper says:

… only if you kiss me quick 🙂

    • Anna says:

Ooh matron! None, because I expect they will all be heaving whenever the sun makes an unpredictable appearance. I’ve booked a posh lodge with a hot tub in the wilds of Northumberland which looks sufficiently remote that one might bump into the Ninth Legion en route to view Hadrian’s Wall.

      • Robert says:

Please do if it’s ok to share details or a review after your return of the lodge in Northumberland as we are also looking at that region for a summer break this year.

        • Anna says:

Will do, though it’s not the usual HFP accommodation! You can have a look on the Hoseasons website, they are regarded as cheap and cheerful but of course they are still charging school holiday prices so 4 figures for a week in July! We’ve saved so much with everything else being cancelled, it doesn’t rankle quite as much this time.

          • Robert says:

Thanks Anna, I’ll check out the website.
Have a great holiday there, very nice part of the world, whatever the weather.

  • Jimmy says:

Anyone had any experience of taking the Easyjet cancellation (covid) voucher.
I just received the voucher and it is less than I paid.
The difference is £22 in one case and Eur28 in the other.

    • Lady London says:

not here but will be interested to hear if you find out

  • Mark says:

    Data point
B and Q don’t accept Amex in store but if you go on to the B&Q website you can get an Egift voucher for £250 and u can use an Amex to purchase the voucher online.
I have just purchased another kitchen (property developer) with 13 E gift vouchers purchased over
6 or 7 days resulting in me hitting my BAPP spend target.

    • Binks says:

Thank you for the top tip. I am doing up my house in the next few months and the points will come in very handy 😎

    • Anna says:

You can also buy them at Tesco and other large supermarkets. Vintage HFP trick.

      • RussellH says:

Morrison’s is next door to our local B+Q. Gift cards bought and redeemed within 15 mins.

      • mark2 says:

At Morrisons you also get 0.5% cash back with Morrison’s More points and there used to often be statement credits with Amex and others.

  • Baji Nahid says:

i noticed someone commented on here that on their tesco app they had an offer for being able to collect a few clubcard points for every £1 spent, is this true? I dont really see anything on my app about it.
