LAST DAY to get a 100% bonus buying IHG Rewards Club hotel points

IHG Rewards Club has been running a 100% ‘buy points’ bonus for the last few weeks, which is as generous as you ever see.  It ends TODAY, Monday 15th.

There are two extra tweaks which make this better than similar deals:

IHG has increased the maximum number of points you can buy to a whopping 500,000 points (ie 250,000 plus the 250,000 bonus).

There is no taper – as long as buy at least 3,000 points, you receive the full 100% bonus.  In the past we have seen high minimum thresholds to receive a 100% bonus.

The page to buy points is here.

With a 100% bonus, you would be able to buy up to 500,000 IHG points for (at current exchange rates for $2,500) £1,951.

I usually value IHG Rewards Club points at 0.4p.  This is exactly what you are paying for them here, so from that point of view you shouldn’t lose money.

The skill is to use them at hotels where you can get substantially more than 0.4p per point of value.  The new InterContinental Maldives, for example, is 100,000 points for an Overwater Pool Villa or – looking at next February – $1,100 inc taxes for cash, per night.  This is a 50%+ saving given that 100,000 points will cost you $500.  Availability is tricky to find here in peak season, however.

More importantly, IHG’s recent move to variable points pricing in many countries has created some great bargains.  You can read more about IHG Rewards Club variable points pricing in our articles here for Europe and here, for London

It is VERY easy to get more than 0.4p per point at the moment – I found UK and European hotels where you could get double that, so buying points would effectively halve the cost of your stay.

You can buy points via this link.  The 100% bonus ends tonight, Monday.

Just saved £20 on an existing Melia Sevilla booking by buying points, now to have a look and see if there is money to be saved (or better hotels to be booked) in Madrid and Barcelona.

    Thanks

    Hi all,

IHG Points advice please. I’m a bit late to this and looking to buy some points today, but can someone offer advice as which is the best card to use please?

    Do I:

    1. Use my IHG card via Curve (and if so will I still get the spend points for using the IHG Card).
    2. Just use my IHG card (and hopefully get double spend points)
    3. Use my Platinum Amex do benefit from the double spend points.
    4. Use my Halifax Clarity to negate the FX fees.
    5. Any other ways

    Thanks in advance

    • jamie says:

Isn’t Curve fx free? That seems the best way to me with underlying IHG Black

Amex decent option but fx fees trump double points

    • Genghis says:

Calculate your overall position for each method per £1

      1) 0.8p net
      2) 0.8p – 3p = -2.2p net (processed by points.com so I don’t think get for IHG and per terms for IHG card not “outside the UK” so no double points; mute point really anyway given 3% cost).
      3) 2p – 3p = -1p net
      4) flat
      5) Depends which cards you have.

      I’d do 1.

Does anyone know what happens if you cancel a current melia points booking? How long are the points valid for? Bought these in an offer a few months ago. Thanks!

    • Rob says:

A year. Any activity extends them so simply paying 5 Euro to buy 1000 gets you another year.

      • TGLoyalty says:

Recently had to do that as I earned 23k points from a stay last year so thought it was worth keeping alive.

1000 points Posted immediately and expiry extended a year.

    • Sean says:

back to original validity unless other movements on account

  • Charlieface says:

Is the “cash & points then cancel” trick not the same price anyway?

  • Fritz the cat says:

Just got 2000 points i signed up with the BA promotional link but cannot see the other 2000 points in the my offer psge-;(

  • Baji Nahid says:

I always book the cheapest fares and they always let me check in my massive hand baggage in for free at checkin if you ask nicely.

  • Adrian says:

Re IHG points, as an ambassador you can choose 20% rebate on points bookings as one of the renewal options, this coupled with zero taxes makes the use of points at IHG a good deal, imo especially as taxes/fees can be up to 20% all told in some countries therefore i think they are worth slightly more than Rob’s valuation (not much, but a little).

  • mutley says:

IHG 100% points deal has been extended until June 20th
