The new HFP chat thread – Thursday 11th June

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/06/11/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-thursday-11th-june/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working.  Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

I hear the outcome of the Virgin Atlantic redundancies was announced at 1700. Anyone got the details yet?

  • Richard says:

I’ve just seen an option to add an e-voucher code when booking new flights on BA. Not seen that before so might mean we no longer need to call up to use the vouchers!

I’ve not got a live voucher at the moment, so can’t test it.

    • Rob says:

That’s always been there. The cancellation vouchers don’t work as they are not e-vouchers, they are just cancelled ticket numbers.

OT: IOM going from 2m social distancing to zero. Unfortunately for those wishing to travel to / form the island for business or leisure there are still travel restrictions.

  • Pete C says:

Hello all, does anyone know if it is possible to change an Avios booking to a date more than 355 days in advance of the original booking date? If so, are any seat reservation fees paid included in the new booking?

  • Connor says:

Anyone got a CoT referral code? £75 for us both, it should be on the bottom of your statement.

Some IHG hotels in London are now on the new variable pricing for reward nights . I have just booked the Crowne Plaza City at Blackfriars for 27.5K instead of 55K and the IC O2 for 20K instead of 40K

    • BigSi says:

@Mark. Cheers for this – just rebooked the O2 with points for 2 nights and saved 25,000 points!

    • Alan S says:

Well spotted. Just booked a couple of rooms for Edinburgh/Glasgow towards the end of the year.

Cash rate was £150 for the Indigo – 15000 points.

    • Craig says:

Excellent, thanks for the heads up, 60k points saved at the IC Park Lane.

    • FlyingChris says:

…also hotels in Japan. Tokyo/Osaka IC’s half the price now in some cases.

  • DaveL says:

What’s the best way to flexibly book ferries or euro tunnel to France at the moment? Are any operators offering additional flex? Want to book for July but nervous about losing a lot if unable to go – and it is expensive. First time booking a fery

    Thanks for any advice

    • Rhys says:

No idea, we’re not ferry specialists! I imagine there will be guidance on their site.
