The new HFP chat thread – Wednesday 10th June

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/06/10/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-wednesday-10th-june/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working.  Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

Going back to the Amex £100 Waitrose/M&S/etc spend offer: apologies if I missed it, but have we had confirmation of spend on both a supplementary card and the main card getting credit (where both saved the offer)?

  • Crafty says:

Does anybody know when we might expect Conrad Algarve to open bookings for a certain week next year? (It’s already within the next 365 days.)

  • pin perl says:

    Hi everyone,
Anyone know if I add a supplementary gold card to my platinum amex, will I receive 5000 bonus points? I’ve already received the bonus for adding a supplementary platiunum.

  • Ron says:

Hello, a refund gone back to a cancelled Amex card and if I transfer it to a current BAPP credit card, does it count as a refund or cash payment? Ie, will it increase my £10000 voucher target? Thanks.

    • AJA says:

Don’t bother trying to move it to the new card. Simply contact Amex and ask them to refund to your bank account. That way it won’t count towards your spend.

    • Grant says:

It counts as a credit against any oustanding balance in the same way as you paying the bill would.

      • Grant says:

Just to add I have done this on numerous occasions and it has always worked as I described. I was fortunate enough that when refund started to arrive for my cancelled travel plans they were all sent to a cancelled card. The subsequent credit balance was spread around several active cards with debit balances. It is also much quicker (quoted 3-5 business days but sooner in my experience) than asking for a refund to your bank account which I have found can take a while and require chasing.

        • BJ says:

+1, but nothing fortunate about mine,, I made sure cards were cancelled before refunds started coming in.

  • Richard says:

What do people think about when BA will re-start Gatwick flights? As we’re due to fly to Greece (Thessaloniki) in mid-Sept from Gatwick and looking at parking.

    • Andrew says:

I just had my September Rome flight from LGW cancelled today – so I would say they are pushing ahead with the talked about plan to leave the airport completely

      • Gareth says:

We have BA flights to Pahphos from Gatwick in July (although not holding out much hope). Looking on the BA timetable they have reduced frequency from daily to 3 days a week from mid-July which means ours haven’t been cancelled so far. Wouldn’t be surprised if those last few days drop off soon though.

        • Anna says:

My MAN-AGP flights at the end of July were cancelled and I was offered LGW as an alternative! I took the refund.

    • Michael C says:

Richard, maybe a cancellable JustPark spot?

    • Richard says:

Thanks all, lucky ours haven’t been cancelled (yet!). Cancelable parking is the way to go I think

  • Chris K says:

Trying to add Hilton Barclaycard to Curve app and it’s saying “You can’t add this card to Curve. Please try adding a different card”.

It’s a replacement for one that expired last month, which I could use in Curve without any problems.

Anyone had a similar problem or know of a workaround, please?

    • Rossy says:

I had similar problems in the past linking a nationwide credit card. I was advised by curve to contact my bank and get them to issue a new card (with new card number). It’s a nuisance, but it did work

    • John says:

Yes it’s something to do with having the same card number.

I think I fixed it by simply deleting the old card then adding the new one. Or I may have contacted Curve to fully remove the old card.

    • fivebobbill says:

As John says, you have to delete the old card before the app will accept the new one, had the same issue a few months ago.

  • Steve R says:

    @Mr(s) Entitled

Could i ask what date in August, we are due to go to DLM.

Like you Man much more convenient , but you can’y argue with RFS during the summer holidays

    • Mr(s) Entitled says:

I was flying 10/8 – 21/8 LGW to AYT. Both outbound and inbound now cancelled. It’s a new route and I suspect it has been pulled completely

  • Dragonfly says:

I need some collective wisdom here. Thanks in advance.
Hubby has an Amex Plat for about 4 years which is due for renewal next month (am his supplementary). After reading HfP I recommended that he phoned Amex to ask if anything they would offer to retain him. I read out the various spiels on the blogs for him so he was armed with the correct info. Anyway, he phoned them today and was offered nothing 🙁 He did not want to say outright to them that he has read about the 15K – 20K points offered – he was shy! He said he may call again tomorrow to see if he would have any luck.
However, this would be my plan – hubby is not into these credit card things, and I have been the ones who has done them for both of us. Please comment on my plan if I am on the right track.
    1. Before cancelling his Amex Plat – due for renewal next month, he refers me to get the referral points into his Amex Plat. I have had a BA Amex Plus card for almost 7 years. I had an Amex Gold which was cancelled over 2 years ago. This means that I would be able to get the 30K points bonus if spending £4K in 6 months. Is this correct?
    2. After I receive my Amex Plat, I would make hubby my supplementary and enrol for PP cards, hotel status etc. Then hubby would cancel his Amex Plat.
    3. I have a BA Amex Plus card (with no supplementary – hubby did not want an extra card). I currently have two 2-4-1 vouchers. If I cancel my BA Amex Plus card, then my two vouchers will stay intact, and when I am ready to redeem them I can pay for the taxes with any card. Is this correct?
    4. If the above is the case, then I am thinking of cancelling my BA Amex Plus card – but before doing so, refer hubby for it. Over the last 2 years he only has the Amex Platinum card, his Amex gold card was cancelled over 4 years ago. This means he would get the 25K avios for spending £3K in 6 months? Is this correct.
Sorry for the long windy story and questions. I just want to clear the issues before doing anything. During the current environment it may be difficult for us to put through £7K spending over 6 months on both cards – because of no travel. Only we can put our rent through the Amex cards then we would have no problem with the spending 🙂

    • Anna says:

Is the Platinum sign up bonus 35k points if you’re referred by another card holder? I may be wrong.
I can’t see any issues on a quick read of this but you have to pay the taxes/fees on a 2 4 1 booking on any AMEX, not just any card. It could be your husband’s though.

      • Dragonfly says:

        Thanks, Anna, for your reply.
The Plat sign up bonus I have given is for normal sign up bonus (for simplicity) without the referral bonus.
OK, the taxes / fees on the 241 booking must be with an Amex and not just any credit card.
