The new HFP chat thread – Wednesday 10th June

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/06/10/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-wednesday-10th-june/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working.  Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

  • Eric the Half a Bee says:

Datapoint: £100 Amex Plat credited with spend at Waitrose Cellar despite supposed exclusion. May help some folks who wouldn’t normally shop at Waitrose.

  • Richard says:

Can anyone help with this? we had flights booked from Madrid to Thessaloniki via Athens with Aegean. The Athens to Thessaloniki flight has now been cancelled and the alternative arrives 1 hour 20 later. Given the delay isn’t long I don’t think a refund is possible on the length of delay. However, I think I’m eligible for a refund as the flight has been cancelled, but not sure if that applies for flights with more than one leg.

    • Pangolin says:

The alternative flight will have a different flight number so if it’s all on the same PNR (booking number) then you have the right to a full refund of the ticket.

  • Graeme says:

Hypothetical question, would it be against Amex rules to have a supplementary card in the name of, for example, a family pet?

    • Pangolin says:

Lol I can imagine the reaction in Brighton when they see the name Tiddles on the card application!

    • Qwertyknowsbest says:

Hypothetical reply, want to risk money laundering suspension or suspicion?

      • Graeme says:

Interesting point – how would a supplementary card in the name of a non-human be more useful for money laundering than one in the name of a human?

        • Sandgrounder says:

I presume this is to facilitate extra offers. It might be more sensible to issue the cards in the names of real people you are related to, they need never know as the cards are delivered to your address, and they might be legitimately useful one day.

          • Genghis says:

Don’t push your luck with too many supps and accessing offers.

    • Another Graeme says:

Naughty Graeme! You risk sullying the good name of Graeme.

    • Chris Heyes says:

Graeme@ Not if your Family pet is your “Wife” lol

  • Jtz says:

Anyone know if the ns&i route works with Hilton/curve card, just caught up on so much!

  • G says:

T©B have posted Tesco Pet insurance cash back for me for 2 accounts today

    • Liz says:

How long did it take to go to payable. Mine just moved to confirmed recently.

      • G says:

Transaction date is showing as 21st Jan on one and 8th Jan on the other. They were both confirmed around March time I think and changed to payable today. So they do take the full 20 weeks stated

    • BJ says:

Not mine, been confirmed for weeks already.

    • Alan S says:

Yeah both of ours changed to payable in the last few days.

Now just need an Avios transfer bonus…

      • Brian W says:

There is currently been a 5% transfer to Avios bonus, been there for a while but not as good as the 15% or 20% (can’t remember) that we used to see periodically.

      • Jo says:

My payout for this can only be via BACS, are you able to payout to Avios?

  • Optimus Prime says:

Some restaurants in Vegas are charging a covid19 fee…

    • Peter K says:

Can’t you ask for your meal to be served without the virus and save the fee at the same time 😉

  • Lee says:

IHG Premium Credit Card question. When will the £10K free night voucher spending reset? I applied my card on 12th Jun and first card spending on 16th, first statement was issued on 25th. Thanks!

    • Lee says:

Sorry for more question. When will the free night voucher be issued?

      • Doogie says:

Not 100% sure on exact to the day date but it will be June 2021 around card anniversary

        • Doogie says:

And the reset should be the same time

        • Doogie says:

Doh, just realised that this was obviously started last year… go back to sleep me! Should be within the next couple of weeks – probably card or statement anniversary

    • The Urbanite says:

It should come with this month’s points, working day after the statement.

  • Craig W says:

    Hi all

I have a LHR-JNB flight on an A388 in club world. Am hoping to upgrade to first if availability appears, but what are the best seats to pick for two people in club? Never been on a double decker in club before (only first) so no idea!!?
