The new HFP chat thread – Tuesday 2nd June

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/06/02/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-tuesday-2nd-june/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working.  Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

  • Pete C says:

Has anyone attempted to get some sort of retention offer on the HSBC PWE? Even once travel gets up and running again, the LoungeKey benefits will likely be as good as useless with the lounge capacity restrictions

    • Andy says:

I too wish they’d do something. It seems all our attempts though are falling on deaf ears…
Still, I just got the card a few months ago and I still intend to keep it.

  • Alex M says:

Still no sign of 100£ Amex offer – Rob, what’s wrong with me?!

  • Stephen says:

Hi All, may I ask an OT re IHG CC? I tried to make an HL deposit today, but it was declined (whereas I never have issues doing the same with the gov bank). I called Creation and asked if there was a block on my account. They said yes, one had been applied because the MCC code for HL was designated as a BTC one (I don’t actually know what the actual 4-digit MCC was), even though HL is a FTSE-100 outfit. Are there any other more main stream banks which accept curved IHG payments that might circumvent any MCC issues at Creation’s end? Many thanks in advance!

  • pin perl says:

    Hi Everyone,
Has anyone gotten matched yet by Qatarairways?

    • Neil Donoghue says:

Still nothing and it’s been 2 weeks now!

      • pin perl says:

you think it’s a farce the whole thing?

        • Anuj says:

I got an email yesterday acknowledging my request but they’re still sending them out to everyone.

  • Sam says:

I have just spent £4k for platinum bonus but the bonus still hasn’t posted, its been a few days now. It usually posts very fast, within 24 hours of criteria being met….anyone having issues currently?

  • JP says:

Re – Accor – I have 8,000 points expiring at the end of this month. Is there anyway of renewing these without making a stay? I’ve tried messaging Accor but they are very unhelpful, and would prefer not to lose value by converting to BA.

    Thanks

    • Also says:

IME, points from surveys via Club Opinions have reset my expiry clock even though the Ts&Cs only really mention stays

    • Rob says:

Convert some Eurostar or Qatar or Finnair points into Accor? Perhaps move some Amex to Eurostar or Finnair to convert across? That usually resets expiry even though I think technically you are meant to have a stay. Might not be worth it of course due to whatever bad deal you get on the Finnair / Eurostar conversion.

    • Chris says:

I got an email from Accor on May 20th saying that points expiration had been paused until December 15th. I’ve no status with them anymore so assume it may be a blanket policy so may be worth checking with them

  • WillPS says:

Anybody done Green to Platinum upgrade recently, and got the points? Was the higher fee charged on upgrade?

I’ve used up the ‘introduction bonus’ on the Plat CB card (converted from Costco) and that should pay out next month. No interest in Avios (fiancée doesn’t fly), so it’s either try for a cheeky upgrade or go fallow for 2 years.

    • Charlieface says:

Can’t begin to imagine why you wouldn’t get the pints, or why if you didn’t you couldn’t complain.

  • Pat the Postie says:

I use Curve card a lot more now it has Apple Pay, surprised, might even upgrade to metal

    • Spk says:

Beware, no S75 protection for refunds!

      • Don says:

Like Amex Plat £575 per year.

        • guesswho2000 says:

Although I’d have far more faith in Amex than Curve if I needed something along those lines.

      • Sanders says:

Good point although I only use mine for Apple Pay purchases in store which are rarely high value

        • Simon jordan says:

I use mine with Google means I only need my phone. No cards or wallet.
