No more Virgin Points from international money transfers

For the last few years, an interesting route to pick up a large chunk of Virgin Flying Club points was via the Virgin Money International Money Transfer service.

It was a generous deal The amount of Virgin Flying Club points you could earn depended on the size of your transfer:

£5,000 – £9,999 – earn 2,500 points

£10,000 – £19,999 – earn 5,000 points

£20,000 – £49,999 – earn 10,000 points

£50,000 – £99,999 – earn 25,000 points

£100,000+ – earn 50,000 points

Unfortunately, this deal is now over. As you can see here, Virgin Money is getting out of this sector on 24th June.

The service was run as a joint venture with WorldFirst, which is taking over the customer database. The Flying Club offer was meant to run until August 2020 so the contract is clearly ending earlier than Virgin Money anticipated.

How to earn Virgin Points from UK credit cards (December 2021)

I’d been holding-off until nearer the end date, as I usually do (keep my options open). Have just sent 10k over this afternoon, and I will report back.

I transferred 2000 Heathrow rewards points, Which landed yesterday. The activity tab on the BA app says 2000 Avios yet the balance has increased by 6000 Avios?!

I have no idea whether the cost of the Amex small business promotion they run every year falls on Amex or the retailer but if it’s More on Amex I’d Love to see them run some SME promotions once the lockdown eases. All my promotions tend to be for big spends with larger brands and I’d love to see spending at smaller companies incentivised

  If you were really bothered about helping SME you would shop there regardless and not need incentivising. I like a bargain as much as anyone but the way for the economy to pick up as quickly as possible is for those who are in a position to, to keep spending
