The new HFP chat thread – Wednesday 20th May

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/05/20/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-wednesday-20th-may/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working.  Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

I put some money in Revolut using Curve/IHG. My IHG transaction is showing a 4162 code. Does this mean I will be charged a fee? Thanks

    • Anna says:

At present IHG seems to be charging interest on Revolut top ups so you need to pay off the IHG card straight away if you want to avoid this.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

Or put yourself in credit first before making the top up, you may incur charges even on the 1-2 days waiting for the payment to clear. Withcreation you need to have any outstanding balance, I leave 1p. 😉

        • Heathrow Flyer says:

Just save the payment link as a favourite and no balance is required.

          • guesswho2000 says:

This. You need to be able to access the payment page, if you can get to it then you can make any payment you like.

          • Ash says:

            And if not revoult?

          • ashish says:

Then what account can we pay this into please?

    • stevenhp1987 says:

What’s MCC 4126? Cannot find it in the MasterCard MCC list! I thought Revolut was going through as 4829 (money transfer).

Also, where do you find the MCC with Creation?

      • guesswho2000 says:

4829 or 6012, depending on which way the wind is blowing. I can’t find any reference to 4162/4126, looks like it could be the last four digits of OP’s card number, but I might be wrong.

        • Michael says:

It’s not an MCC code, it’s a Revolut transaction reference code. Absolutely no bearing on any cash advance fee, interest etc.

      • The Urbanite says:

It’s not a MCC, Revolut add 4 digit security code to their merchant name when you transact with them.

    • guesswho2000 says:

4162? Are you sure that’s not the last four digits of your IHG card number?

  • Nick says:

Rolls-Royce to cut 9,000 jobs largely in civil aerospace.

Rolls-Royce is expecting to have to axe around 9,000 personnel – about 17% of its global workforce – in the aftermath of the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

Its civil aerospace division will be “predominantly” affected, it says, following the severe deterioration of the air transport market.

    Re the best for refunds.
I thought everyone knew that Customer Service was a £50 optional extra with RyanAir

  • Lumma says:

Has anyone received their points when transferring from Heathrow Rewards to Avios with the 50% bonus yet?

  • donna says:

Anyone else having problems with BA holidays (flights to Miami next March + hotel) paying just a deposit? Website wants full payment now… thanks!

    • Anna says:

I had this issue a few years ago, BA tried to tell me I needed to book either hotel or car hire for the full duration to only need to pay a deposit. However, a helpful HFP poster subsequently told me this could be a browser issue and since making bookings on different devices I’ve not had any problems. BA’s IT is pretty unfathomable, so it’s worth a try!

  • Vinz says:

Has anybody had any luck with Amex re retention bonus/double points for a BAPP? Thanks

    • Andrew says:

I’m currently on an extra 1 Avios per £1 spent for 3 months as a retention offer.

      • Alex says:

How did you get it? Just call up and ask. My renewal is coming up so thinking of asking them if they can do something (given I have already 2 x 2for1 vouchers…)

  • Optimus Prime says:

Have just watched today’s Google Doodle and now I’m wishing I could go back this year!

  • Julia R says:

Hi there. Have any IHG Spire members had their 25k points/gifted platinum applied to their account since the announcement that we’d get status extended until the end of 2021? My ambassador voucher and membership have both been extended, as has my spire, but no sign of the qualification benefit.

    • Rob says:

Not me, although IHG did say it would take some time.

      • TGLoyalty says:

long enough for people like me to earn 55k anyway and miss out on the free 25k I’m sure.

        • luckyjim says:

You haven’t missed out. They lowered the renewal threshold to zero points. You’ve met that so nothing to worry about.

          • TGLoyalty says:

Depends if people who hit 55k points AFTER the free extension choice (25k) is awarded then get a second second choice for hitting 55k.

          • luckyjim says:

But they won’t. And even if, by some glitch, they do you still won’t lose out. You will receive what you are entitled too.

    • Andrew says:

I’m in the same situation, nothing yet.

    • Nick says:

Yes, I received my 25K bonus on the 24th April.

    • Matt says:

My Spire expiry date was already 31/12/2021 (after renewing my Ambassador membership in January). Should I be expecting my Spire status to be extended by 12 months (to 31/12/2022) or will it stay at 31/12/2021?

(I’ve also not had the Spire benefit choice offered… And it’s also been 2 months since my IHG premium credit card anniversary date, and I’ve still not had the free night appear in my account…)
