The new HFP chat thread – Tuesday 19th May

We have decided to run this new daily chat thread on Head for Points.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the defacto repository for random comments and questions.  It is unlikely that the news flow will be so big over the next few weeks that we will need many ‘Bits’ articles, however.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are stuck at home self-isolating, we want the HFP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as its keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HFP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/05/19/the-new-hfp-chat-thread-tuesday-19th-may/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

We will continue to monitor how this is working.  Let’s see how it goes.  Take care!

    Oi. Where’s today’s hotel review?

  • Anna says:

All this has got me thinking now! I wouldn’t be at all surprised if BA cancels our MAN-AGP flight and offers us a re-route via LHR. This would be a definite no-no as it would mean pretty much a full day’s travel at either end and negotiating 2 airports instead of one. Would we still be eligible for a refund as we’d still be departing from MAN in the first instance? I’d rather take my chance with a LCC direct from MAN.

    • Rhys says:

If BA cancels the MAN departure then yes, you would be eligible for a refund

      • Anna says:

Good, thanks. I’m far from certain I’m going to be able to persuade my OH to travel at all this summer, there would be no prospect whatsoever if we weren’t using direct flights!

  • Titus Adduxas says:

I’ve got a ‘Future Travel Voucher’ from BA which I assume is the correct one to include the 241 which would otherwise have expired in August. Can someone please confirm this as I’d have taken the refund option otherwise. It doesn’t appear to be a ‘Book with Confidence’ one.

    Tesco Pet Insurance.
Took out the policy in January. Didn’t receive the points. CHased Tesco many times to be told different stories such as points will take up to 60 days, or that they will be posted soon, and recently was even told they’ve been posted (they haven’t). Todays chase (4 months after taking out the policy) led to this message from their social media team:
“Hi xxxxx we’ve been advised that you need to contact the Pet Insurance team directly to discuss this, as it doesn’t look like you qualified for points or had not provided a promo code when taking out the policy. You can contact them directly at:
    @tescobankhelp
    Facebook Thanks – yyyyy ”

To those who managed to eventually get the points, what wording or tactic did you use?
For the record, I am not gaming the system and was genuinely in need of the pet insurance. Seems ironic that those with fake cats & dogs seem to have succeeded!

    • Baji Nahid says:

Like Wise! I would just phone them up and complain! My son never got his points and emailed and was told to wait 70 days! I had one agent telling me to wait 80 days! It is all mixed match!

  • Andrew says:

Uhm “The Goverment”… Just Westminster? What happens with rUK?

Probably easier to make it 30th November to tie in with the St Andrew’s Day Holiday in Scotland.

  • Rob says:

Indeed. We’ll be in Dubai for 2 weeks so it is one day less out of my wife’s holiday allowance 🙂

    • Anon says:

      October ok for international holidays?

We’re planning Seychelles for July…perhaps too optimistic and quarantine on return could scupper the whole thing.

    • TGLoyalty says:

It’s all one big holiday right now 😉

  • AJA says:

The guardian is reporting EasJet has had a cyber attack where 2,208 customers had credit card details stolen but a further 9 million customers personal information was accessed!

Topping up Revolut from Virgin CC – have Virgin Money they changed their stance again?
A week ago the topup went fine. Now Virgin Money blocking my topups rejecting transactions. On the phone VM say use another card.

    • Stephen says:

      What was the latest MCC?

      • Artem says:

Merchant category code (MCC): WIRE TRANSFER MONEY ORDERS

        • Michael says:

That’s why then. Thats not 6012. Honestly, Revolut is really in the bin. I wouldn’t bother.

        • steve fred says:

Got the same on topping up Revolut using Curve backed on to Lloyds.
Can see the transaction in Lloyds. No fee or interest yet, but I suppose that will be applied at the time of statement?

          • Alex W says:

Does that require “curve fronted” enabled and incur the 1.5% fee?

          • FloriGuy says:

People are saying Revolut is in the bin. How are people topping up Monese – is it still poss to do a PP top up using card?

          • TGLoyalty says:

There’s 0 reason for using curve rev accepts credit cards and curve passes on the MCC so any fees will be incurred as if it was used directly.

    • Artem says:

Be careful, my attempt to topup has blocked my card completely and I had to call Virgin Money to unblock it.

      • Alex W says:

Same here. VM said they would continue to block Revolut transactions as they are “frequently reported as fraudulent”.
